What Shape Are Your In?

7 Dec

God’s WordPsalms 119:41-48shape-of-love

God’s Attribute: Love that shapes our lives

God’s Message to me:

Have you stopped to consider how your love shapes other lives?  The amount of love, forgiveness, compassion and kindness you give others shapes their very being.  In the same way, the extent to which you respond to My love and forgiveness, compassion and kindness, shapes your very being.  You cannot give what you do not possess.  Accept from Me and then pass on to others.  My love and attributes can flow through your life, into the lives of others.  Oh, how hungry the world is for My love, forgiveness, compassion and kindness.  But unless they see it reflected in you—they may miss it altogether.

Guard what I have entrusted to you.  Use the words of counsel you read from My Word to shape your life and shape how you relate to others.  My truth and wisdom do not flow into your life by osmosis—you must search them out and then live them out in the school of hard knocks.  Do you deserve My love and forgiveness?  What could you ever do to deserve the sacrifice that was given on your behalf—the death of Christ?  Then why do you think others should be deserving of your love and forgiveness.

To fully benefit from My gift of love and forgiveness, you must allow it to shape your thoughts and be extended to all others—regardless of whether they deserve it or not.  Regardless of whether they accept you or not—you be My hands, feet and mouth that conveys My love for your world.

God’s Question for me

How has My love shaped the way you relate to others in your life?

God’s Promise to me

My love shapes your life so you can shape other lives on My behalf.

My Prayer to Emulate God’s Attributes:  I Pledge:

My mind: To focus on forgiveness instead of retribution.

My voice:  To be an encourager of others by ready forgiveness.

My heart:  To express my appreciation of your love by loving others.

My body:  To serve others in appreciation for Your forgiveness of me.

God’s Word: Psalms 86

God’s Attribute(15) You, O God, are both tender and kind, not easily angered, immense in love, and you never, never quit.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

 God’s Message to me:

The favors you request of Me are the very ones I expect you to extend to others.  You long for Me to be tender and kind to you.  Are you tender and kind to others?  You rejoice that I am not easily angered.  Are you easily angered?  You are glad that My love is immense.  Is your love immense?  You depend upon My ability to never, never quit.  What have you quit that which I have depended upon you to do?

As you read through My word one thing should be very clear—as you wish Me to do for you—you must also do for others.  That is how this kingdom life is.  You cannot receive what you are unwilling to share.  You claim to love Me from the bottom of your heart—then curse one who easily angers you.  Are you really and truly living My words and deeds our and sharing them with others?  Fortunately for you, I have an endless resource of justice and grace.

Simply look to Me through my word and I will reveal Myself more and more to you every passing day.  Reading from My word is not like reading “Little House on the Prairie.”  Though reading that book you come to know the heart and spirit of Laura Ingalls Wilder, her spirit does not interact with your spirit.  When you read My word—My spirit goes into motion and teaches your heart the thoughts and intents of My heart.  Our spirits unite in the word.  Then I empower you reach into your world and show and tell them what you have learned from Me.

God’s question for me:  How long has it been since you truly fellow-shipped with Me in My Word?

God’s promise to meI will never leave you or forsake you.

My prayer to God:

  1. Adoration:  I stand amazed in your presence and could just remain her indefinitely—but life demands that live out your presence before all those I come in contact with.
  2. Confession: I’m sorry I don’t do better at living out Your love.
  3. Thanksgiving: Thanks for this reminder to emulate Your love.
  4. Supplication:  Help me to never give up on others.

Seed-Bed of Happiness

23 Feb

God’s Word:   I Corinthians 7:1-40 (The Message)

God’s Message to me: (My interpretation of what God is saying in these verses)dog in flowers

Happiness comes from a decision within; not from your circumstances.  In this passage these instructions are directed toward Christ-followers.  Marriage is not the place to “stand up for your rights.”  Marriage is a decision to serve the other.  This is a big reason why divorce is so rampant.  Instead, take to heart this meaning of “love.”  Love is the supreme concern for the well-being of another, with no regards as to what you receive for yourself.

Jesus lived out this self-sacrificing meaning of “love.”  His supreme concern was for your well-being (salvation) with no regards as to what the consequences were for Him.  Do you see how this concept can be a life-changer for you?  Too many are looking to marriage (and life) for what they can get out of it rather than what they can give.  That goal is always illusive—in marriage, business, churches, community, and the home.  Life is My gift to you and how you live your life is your gift to Me.  As you relate to others is in reality how you relate to Me.

Happiness is not found at the end of the rainbow.  Instead, it begins right where you are and creates its own rainbow of blessings showered on others. You are the end of someone’s rainbow and in meeting their needs you will find your own rainbow grows even brighter.  Get rid of the “tit for tat” mentality.  Jesus surely did and you can too.  Here is the secret to living this out; treat your spouse, and everyone, as though they were Jesus. Live toward them as though it was actually Jesus—for that is exactly how He interprets your words and deeds.  This is the secret of happiness and it is right within your reach.

God’s Question:

What rainbow of blessing will you create today?

God’s Promise:

You can discover happiness right where you are.

My Prayer to God:

I Praise You for this simple path to happiness.

I am Sorry I too often live “tit for tat.”

Thank You for reminding me to live for You.

Please Help Me so live and set a faithful example.

Poppy-Seed Faith

25 Jan

God’s Word: Matthew 17:14-23

God’s Message to me: (My interpretation of what God is saying in these verses)poppy-seeds

Mountain-top experiences must carry you through the valleys.  At the bottom of the mountain are people waiting for you to help.  People have needs and other people are meant to minister to those needs.  Are there some people with un-met needs because you are turning your head?  Draw wisdom and strength from My Word in order to help others.  My comfort is given to you to make you a comforter—not merely for your own comfort.

You don’t need bottomless resources before you can reach out and meet needs.  All you need is a seed of faith to start—as small as a poppy seed.  As you plant the tiny seed the plant grows and flourishes and meets needs around you.  As you watch the miracle unfold you find your faith is also unfolding.  With faith you can move mountains.  There is nothing you would not be able to tackle with even a grain of faith.

I’m not looking for people with great faith but for those who will take My Word seriously.  Come to the mountain-top of My Word and let me empower you to climb back down the mountain and mingle with and meet the needs of people.  Sharing My love with the needs of others opens the eyes of their hearts to My love.  Your job is to prepare the soil by sprinkling on the love that makes it ready to grow.  The simplest acts done with a sincere heart full of love—will take root and grow.  Let Me take care of the rooting and growing.  Your just keep pouring on the love.

God’s Question:

Is your life focused on gathering seeds of goodness for yourself or sharing those seeds with others?

God’s Promise:

When just a poppy-seed faith in My Word and Power there is nothing you could not accomplish in My name.

My Prayer to God

I praise You for using us in our tiny poppy-seed faith.

I am sorry we keep waiting for more poppy seeds before starting.

Thank You for reminding us that our job is to plant, Yours to grow.

Help me sprinkle my poppy-seed faith far and wide.

“If”–Little Word–Big Meaning

6 Jul

Leviticus 26

Lessons for Living Today:

“If” you get out of bed and go to work you will receive a paycheck.  if-only“If” you choose to sleep in and ignore work—no check for you. Life is full of “if” choices.  People who make poor choices end up by saying “if only. . .”  Start paying attention to how often you use the word “if.” Instead of saying “If I get up early and go out and weed I can beat the heat,” replace it with “I am going to get up early and go out and weed so I will beat the heat.”  The word “if” shows indecision. Whenever you use or hear the work “if” it means there is a choice to be made—and consequences will naturally follow.

God created us with freedom of choice.  His Word is the manual that was given to help us maneuver through the choices of life.  In it He has provided stories of the lives of people who have gone before us, the choices they made, and the consequences they endured, whether good or ill.  He often said to these people, “If you do thus and so then I will do thus and so.”  They knew ahead of time the consequences of their choices and were free to make choices.  You see, God can see the future so He knows what will result from all choices we make.  He wants to help us have a bright future.

When God warns us against something it is in order to bless us.  He loves us so much that Jesus came to earth to demonstrate that love by sacrificing His life to show the extent of His love.  He has given an open invitation to “whoever will believe in Jesus” to come to Him for forgiveness.  We are given lists of the benefits of following Jesus and lists of the consequences of ignoring His offer.  We can look around us at the lives of others, some who follow Jesus and others who curse Him.  We can see the best life is enjoyed by those who follow Jesus.  Lest we judge the Christian too harshly we must remember that Christians aren’t perfect, just forgiven.

God’s Question: Will you accept My love and forgiveness?

God’s Promise: Life eternal in My presence for My followers.

My Prayer to God:

I praise You for the wonderful guidance in Your Bible.

I am sorry I don’t do a better job of following Your Word.

Thank You for Your ready forgiveness and encouragement.

Help me determine to follow You, no “ifs” about it.

What an Opportunity!

16 Jun

Leviticus 15

Lessons for Living Today:

You and I face great opportunities every day.  love, serve, repeatWe have daily numerous opportunities to help our fellow human beings.  The sad, lonely, discouraged, poor, sick and fearful are found at every turn.  We are the ones that God has chosen to reach out and touch those we come in contact with.  But who are we—that God would choose us to be His hands and feet of mercy?  God’s intention is that all those who have had the eyes of their heart open to Him—through His living Word—would be His ambassadors.

To serve others on behalf of God is the highest calling this earth affords.  He has chosen the least likely position, that of a servant, to elevate to the most important task on earth.  And what better way to serve than on God’s behalf.  Everyone wants to be served the best life has to offer. And it isn’t easy finding people who want to serve others.  Most are busy looking for someone to serve them.  Whatever task we do, whether it is sewing, building, teaching, creating, healing, cooking, or whatever, do it as unto God.

How honored we would be to be called into the courts of God to serve Him.  We have been!  To serve another is the same as serving God.  He takes our treatment of every other person personally.  There is not one way we treat others, and another way we treat God.  They are the same.  Let us not say to another what we would never say to God.  May we never treat another any differently that we would treat God.  By serving others we have the opportunity to actually step into God’s presence, bow before Him and let our service bring him joy.  It is our daily privilege to offer our words and deeds of service to every human we come in contact with.

God’s Question: Who have you served as unto Me today?

God’s Promise: You receive from Me what you give others.

My Prayer to God:

I praise You for this simple way we can serve You.

I am sorry I too often forget to see You as I serve others.

Thank You for this great opportunity to serve others for You.

Help me willingly and eagerly reach out in service to others.

Does God Get Angry?

8 May

Exodus 32:  While Moses was on the mountain getting the laws from God the people had a wild party and forgot God.

Lessons for Living Today:

Let’s consider today what makes us angry?  Angry_Bird_redThere are many different triggers for anger.  Some reasons may be because a person is: hurt, jealous, worried, rejected, or embarrassed. Since we’re made in the image of God I wonder if any of these anger triggers affect Him.  In this chapter of scripture we find that God is angry.  These people who He delivered from slavery in Egypt, opened the Red Sea for them to cross on dry ground, gave them manna and quail miraculously, and provided water out of a rock—have turned their back on Him.  He was hurt, jealous and felt rejected!

God felt like sending fire from heaven to destroy the whole lot.  Thankfully He thought twice before carrying out that edict.  We too will be wise if we think twice before we let our anger get out of control.  We are not a slave to our emotions!  The world suffers greatly because of unbridled anger.  And the training ground for controlling out emotions is the home.  God’s antidote for anger is forgiveness that flows from love.  Too often we bridle love and forgiveness and unbridle our anger.  Unbridled anger destroys relationships, communities, nations, and the world.

“Go ahead and be angry. You do well to be angry—but don’t use your anger as fuel for revenge. And don’t stay angry. Don’t go to bed angry. Don’t give the Devil that kind of foothold in your life.”  Ephesians 4:26, 27  Anger can produce good instead of evil.  Get angry at the things God gets angry about: things like injustice, cruelty, abuse, murder, stealing, lying, sexual sins, and the like.  Let’s focus our anger by getting involved and doing something to stop the evil that is pervading our world.  Overcome evil with good.

God’s Question: Will you get on board with Me in stopping evil?

God’s Promise: I will be with those who cling to Me.

My Prayer to God:

I praise You for controlling Your anger at our world.

I am sorry I let my anger focus on such trivial things.

Thank You for Your Word that helps me focus my anger on evil.

Help me be Your hands and feet to intervene in the evil around me.
