Follow the Light

God’s WordPsalms 119:105-112

God’s Attribute: Lightens our path of lifeFollow the light (2)

God’s Message to me:

My Word (the Bible) was given to light up the path of your life so you can see clearly.  The more you read the Word, the more light you have.  There is no need to stumble through life when I am eager to share My light with you.  When you feel like your life is falling apart you will find the guidance you need in My Word to put it back together.

The stories, sayings and rules found in My Word are there to guide you into the happiest life you could possibly have.  They are not given to hinder but to free you.  Truth frees!  When others try to throw you off track, the truths you have gleaned from My Word will keep you strong and help you see the path of your life clearly.

My Word is a book on living and it is yours forever.  My Word never changes and My promises never fail. This is My gift to you and includes with it joy unspeakable.  When you focus your life on My Word and live according to My guidelines you will experience a peace that passes understanding–no matter the circumstances of your life.

God’s Question for me

Will you follow the LIGHT of My WORD so I can light up your life with peace and joy?

God’s Promise to me

There is no night so dark that My Word cannot bring a glimmer of light and hope.

My Prayer to Emulate God’s Attributes:  I Pledge:

My mind: To continually feed on Your Words of life!

My voice:  To encourage others with gems from Your Word.

My heart:  To be devoted to following You with my whole heart.

My body:  To serve as Your hands and feet to those around me.

Keep the Light on!

Exodus 27:  God’s directions for building the altar and courtyard.

Lessons for Living Today:

The Tabernacle and its furnishings, built according to God’s directions, were a beauty to behold. bible and lamp The lamp allowed one to behold the beauty.  The purity of the fuel for the light allowed the best light possible.  Without the lamp, the Tabernacle was unusable because of the darkness.  The light allowed the ceremonies to take place that God had specified. The ceremonies were not ritual for ritual’s sake.  They had purpose and meaning that united mankind with God is a special way.

A life, built upon the foundation of God’s Word, is a beauty to behold.  It serves as the lamp of our lives ever bringing out God’s beauty to those our life touches.  At least, that is the plan.  Too often the darkness of pride and selfishness worms its way into our lives. When the world sees inconsistencies in the one who claims to be a Christian they scream out hypocrisy!  Oh, how they love saying that!  It takes the focus off of them and puts it on the Christian. The world judges God by the behavior of those who claim to follow Him.

The lamp of God’s Word needs daily tending to keep His light burning.   We tend the lamp by spending time in God’s Word daily, looking to Him for strength and guidance to live our daily lives.  Your calendar will reflect the light of God’s Word.  God’s light will magnify the needs of those around us, calling us to reach out to them.  In the absence of the pure light of God’s Word all sorts of evil sneak into our world.  We begin making judgments according to society’s opinions instead of looking to the Author of Creations instructions. Proverbs 14:12 warns us: “There’s a way of life that looks harmless enough; look again—it leads straight to hell.”

God’s Question: Will you keep the light of My Word burning?

God’s Promise: My light opens the eyes of the spiritually blind.

My Prayer to God:

I praise You for the wonderful light of Your Word.

I am sorry I don’t “turn-on” your light more often.

Thank You for your patience with my failures.

Help me be patient with others and show Your love.

Open the Blinds

God’s Word:  Matthew 6:22, 23   Jesus said, “Your eyes are windows into your body.  If you open your eyes wide in wonder and belief, your body fills up with light.  If you live squinty-eyed in greed and distrust, your body is a dank cellar.  If you pull the blinds on your windows, what a dark life you will have.”

Jesus’ Message to Me: (My interpretation of what Jesus is saying in these verses)

God is light, pure light; there’s not a trace of darkness in Him.  blindsI came to the earth as God’s Ambassador of light to enlighten mankind to the path of salvation.  While these verses talk about the eyes as lighting the body, there is a much deeper meaning.  As you open your eyes in wonder to the world around you, I invite you to open the eyes of your heart to the good news of salvation I made available for all who would believe.

The light of salvation brightens not only eternity but your daily life.  It provides you a whole new lens through which to view your life, your world, and all others.  Keep your eyes wide open to the teaching of God’s Word instead of living squinty-eyed and not enjoying the glorious view I have provided.  In My light you see others as opportunities to respond to My love for you.  As you do for them you are in heaven’s reality—doing for Me.

Take off those sun-glasses and let My light shine into your heart.  I bring you light and love and hope.  I came to earth to give you an abundant life.  This abundant life does not depend upon accumulating wealth.  It opens your eyes wide to the beauty of living a self-less life as My ambassador, on assignment from Me, to love others on my behalf.  As My light shines into your life—you become a beacon of hope to enlighten the lives of those your life touches.  Pass on the light!

Jesus’ Question for Me: Will you reach out to others with the Light of love I have given you?

Jesus’ Promise to Me:  As I shared the light of God’s love with you, I will be with you as you share it with others.

My Prayer to God

I praise You for the Light you have brought into my life.

I am sorry I too often keep the blinds of love closed.

Thank you for never closing the blinds of Your love to me.

Help me to open the blinds and let Your love shine through me.

God’s Word:  Matthew 7:1-5  Jesus said, “Don’t pick on people, jump on their failures, criticize their faults—unless, of course, you want the same treatment.  That critical spirit has a way of boomeranging.  It’s easy to see a smudge on your neighbors face and be oblivious to the ugly sneer on your own. Do you have the nerve to say, ‘Let me wash your face for you,’ when your own face is distorted by contempt? It’s this whole traveling road-show mentality all over again, playing a holier-than-thou part instead of just living your part.  Wipe that ugly sneer off your own face, and you might be fit to offer a washcloth to your neighbor.”

Jesus’ Message to Me: (My interpretation of what Jesus is saying to me through these verses)

The heart of My message here is another reminder to treat others as you wish God to treat you.  God is the only one who knows completely the heart of each person.  So who are you to pick on people, jump on their failures and criticize their faults?  You are completely unqualified.  You overlook your own failures and faults and magnify others.  Don’t consider yourself ‘holier-than-others.’ When you adopt that attitude what you are demonstrating is that you are UNholier than others.

My goal is to help you understand is that you are not qualified to condemn others.  Only the One who knows the heart can mete out condemnation.  You have been assigned the task of loving others on My behalf—not passing out condemnation.  I do not mean you are to tolerate evil, live and let live.  No, I need you to love the one who does evil so he will come to understand My love that is reaching out to him and inviting him to repentance and salvation.

My assignment for you—“Be a light—not a judge!”  “Be a model—not a critic!” You are My ambassador—my representative.  An ambassador is a messenger of good will—not condemnation.  My love for that one you may condemn is so great that I would have died on the cross for only him if necessary.  Does that help you understand how I expect you to treat him, as My representative?  So toss out the critical spirit and offer counsel tempered with My love.

Jesus’ Question for Me: Will you simply trust Me when I ask you to love all others for me?   Love will find a way when there is no other way.

Jesus’ Promise to Me: My grace is sufficient to forgive sins—your assignment is simply to love others—all others–so that they will come to understand how much I love them.

My Song to Jesus:    Love Found a Way     by Avis Christiansen

Wonderful love that rescued me, sunk deep in sin,
Guilty and vile as I could be—no hope within;
When every ray of light had fled, O glorious day!
Raising my soul from out the dead, love found a way.

Love found a way, to redeem my soul,
Love found a way, that could make me whole.
Love sent my Lord to the cross of shame,
Love found a way, O praise His holy Name!

Love brought my Savior here to die on Calvary,
For such a sinful wretch as I, how can it be?
Love bridged the gulf ’twixt me and Heav’n, taught me to pray,
I am redeemed, set free, forgiv’n, love found a way.

Love found a way, to redeem my soul,
Love found a way, that could make me whole.
Love sent my Lord to the cross of shame,
Love found a way, O praise His holy Name!

Love opened wide the gates of light to Heav’n’s domain,
Where in eternal power and might Jesus shall reign.
Love lifted me from depths of woe to endless day,
There was no help in earth below; love found a way.

Love found a way, to redeem my soul,
Love found a way, that could make me whole.
Love sent my Lord to the cross of shame,
Love found a way, O praise His holy Name!
