Joy to The World

21 Dec

God’s Word: Luke 2:8-20joy

God’s Message to me: (My interpretation of what God is saying in these verses)

You may wonder why I chose shepherds to receive the first announcement of Jesus’ birth.  I wanted it understood, from the very beginning, that Jesus’ birth was good news to everyone, starting with the lowly.  The first to hear the greeting from the angel were those shepherds that were on-watch.  They set aside their own need for sleep to guard the sheep and other shepherds for which they had accepted responsibility.  Good shepherds are selfless—they are top on my priority list. That is why I gave them a front row seat at the huge angelic choir on that night of Jesus’ birth.

The shepherds not only heard the news—they went into action.  They ran to find Mary, Joseph and the baby Jesus.  Then they spread the good news of this birth to everyone they met along the way.  All who heard the story from them were impressed.  They spoke with passion and conviction.  When Jesus later called Himself the Good Shepherd, He may have had these who visited Him in the manger in mind.

Therefore, you do not need to know the Bible from cover to cover to be My ambassador.  Share the information you do have with everyone you meet along your life’s pathway. As you share, I am with you and help you understand more and more, plus developing your appetite for learning more of My Word.  It’s all good. . . .very good.  My joy of salvation is good news for the whole world.  But how will they know unless someone tells them.  You are that someone to the little part of the world that surrounds your daily life.  Live it–share it.

God’s Question: Who will be in heaven because of your life?

God’s Promise: Peace to all who follow Christ’s example.

My Prayer to God:

I Praise You for sharing Jesus with our world.

I am Sorry I am not sharing Him more with others.

Thank You for giving me the JOY of Your salvation.

Please help me be a joy to others on Your behalf.

A Dancing Heart

Sterling Principle # 13

Proverbs 23:15, 16,Dancing heart

Dear child, if you become wise, I’ll be a happy parent. My heart will dance and sing to the tuneful truth you’ll speak.

What sets your heart to dancing?  There is good news that gives us pleasure but it takes really good news to set our hearts to dancing.  Some of the best news ever is our children living wisely and making good choices.  When I hear of a person who murdered someone and has a life prison sentence I whisper a prayer for their parent.  That must be  heartbreaking!  Could anything cheer up such a parent?

Parenting is tricky!  It usually only happens to young people who don’t have a lot of years of wisdom under their belt.  The most formative years of children takes place with the most unprepared parents possible. But since that is the way God planned it, He will help parents manage.  A big problem is that young parents don’t understand that their children are their number one responsibility.  Caring for their physical needs is important but also their emotional and spiritual needs.  Be there for them—pray for them!

God is eager to help young parents.  But He won’t step in unless He is invited.  His book the Bible is full of the best parental advice.  But unless you read it you miss out.  And to miss out on God’s great advice is to change the direction of future generations.  The foundation we give our children will determine their decisions as adults. Dancing hearts don’t just happen by accident.  They are the result of setting a good example for your children while young.

God’s Question: Had any heart dancing moments lately?

God’s Promise: Just ask, I am eager to help you parent.

My Prayer to God:

I praise You for raising my kids well in spite of my failures.

I am sorry I didn’t understand this parenting thing earlier.

Thank You for the dancing heart you have given me.

Help me to live before all others as a good example of Your love.

Am I Responsible?

2 Jun

Leviticus 5

Lessons for Living Today:

Where is the line drawn between guilty and not guilty? fault In America we have a court system to decide this.  Isn’t it a crying shame we have a multi-billion dollar industry all because people won’t tell the truth?  No one wants to be held responsible.  Prisons are packed full of people who thought they could get by without being held accountable for their wrong.  And is this prison system turning out law-abiding citizens?  Hardly!

What is the source of this lawlessness?  Refusal to acknowledge there is a God of the universe who gifted each individual for the good of the whole.  Each person who is sitting in prison aborted God’s plan for them and used their passion in a way to harm instead of heal society.  There was a good that God was calling them to and they turned their back and chose evil.  All it takes is one foolish choice for the cycle of evil to grab hold of a victim and choke out the virtue of responsibility—to God and to others.

What is the solution?  The power of one!  One person who turns to God and comes face to face with forgiveness and freedom, then shares that bounty with another.  One man was sharing with a prisoner the Good News that Jesus died to give us.  The prisoner responded “Why has no one ever told me this?  It would have changed my whole life and I wouldn’t be sitting here now.” Yes, the solution is the power of one—each one sharing the Good News.  We share it through our one at a time daily choices, choosing honesty, forgiveness, patience, kindness, goodness and self-control.  Yes, we are each responsible for our own choices and responsible to share God’s solution with those our lives touch.  The power of one!

God’s Question: Will you accept the responsibility of sharing My Good News?

God’s Promise: You are never alone—I am always with you.

My Prayer to God:

I praise You for parents who taught me responsibility.

I am sorry I ignore my responsibility to share Your Good News.

Thank You for Your patient kindness to me.

Help me realize my responsibility to reach out to others.

What’s Your Assignment?

22 Aug

God’s Word: Romans 15:14-21   (The Message)

God’s Message to me: (My interpretation of what God is saying in these verses)

You will find your assignment tucked into your packaging. assignmentAs your life unfolds and your passions and abilities are honed, you will become aware of your assignment.  You see, I prepackaged every human with certain abilities and interests so that the needs of humanity are met.  Your passions and abilities have been gifted as both a blessing and a responsibility.  You receive much pleasure putting them to use but not just for self-gratification; so that you will be a blessing to those around you.  I have blessed you so that you will bless others.

Life is more than just making a living and having a good time.  Oh yes, those are important but just not the most important.  That is not the only assignment I tucked into your packaging.  Your assignment begins while you are making a living and having a good time.  How are you being a blessing to those you work with and those you have a good time with?  The greatest blessing you could ever give to another is to share the good news of salvation through Jesus.  Key is how you present that good news using your passions and abilities.

Fulfillment in life comes as you untuck your assignment and begin living it out.  The critters of the world all come prepackaged with their assignment but they are not given the freedom of choice you have.  You call it instinct that they are following.  Actually, they are obeying their pre-packaged assignment—just as I created them.  I created you with the same pre-packaged assignment but have given you the choice as to how you live that out.  My Word is given to help you see that the driving force of your life is delivering the message of salvation, using the passions and abilities I gifted you with.  It’s a win-win!

God’s Question: How are you living out My assignment?

God’s Promise: Guidance and wisdom are given those who ask.

My Prayer to God:

I Praise You for gifting me with passions and abilities.

I am Sorry I have too often used them for my own pleasure.

Thank You for reminding me of my assignment.

Please Help Me keep the main thing—You—the main focus.

Breaking News!

21 Mar

God’s Word: Luke 24:1-12

God’s Message to me: (My interpretation of what God is saying in these verses)

The breaking news of the current day is almost always bad news. breaking newsIn this passage it is indeed BREAKING NEWS but the first responders were puzzled.  The women who came to anoint the body of Jesus with burial spices found his burial-place empty.  Because of their shock I intervened and sent two representatives to explain what happened.  “Why are you looking for the Living One in a cemetery?  He is not here but raised up.  Remember how he told you when you were still back in Galilee that he had to be handed over to sinners, be killed on a cross, and in three days rise up?” Breaking news indeed!

Everyone likes to be the first to pass on the breaking news.  These women rushed back to tell Jesus apostles what they had found.  But the men didn’t believe a word of it, thought they were making it up.  Isn’t that the way breaking news often affects people.  But in this case the breaking news was indeed good news.  And Jesus had told the apostles this would happen—still they didn’t believe the women.  You see, nothing really changes down through the ages.  People still reject what they don’t see or experience for themselves.

The breaking news of Jesus resurrection was and is a one-time miraculous event.  As my ambassadors, you who have come to know Jesus personally are entrusted with breaking that news to those who know not.  They won’t believe your words unless they can see in your life changes that only Jesus can make.  He offers you love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. But you must make the choice to accept His offer and allow these attributes to flow out of your life into others lives.  And then they will believe.  Breaking news indeed!

God’s Question: Who have you shared the good news with?

God’s Promise: The love of Jesus, flowing through you, is good news!

My Prayer to God:

I Praise You for Jesus example of living for others.

I am Sorry I spend far too much time concerned with myself.

Thank You for Your Word that always brings me back to true north.

Please help me be your instrument to share Your good news.

The Party Invitation

13 Nov

God’s Word:  Luke 5:12-39

God’s Message to me: (My interpretation of what God is saying in these verses)

How would you respond if you were paralyzed and suddenly Jesus was there and healed you? 13 Jesus party with kids Rejoicing to put it mildly, I am sure.  You would likely throw a party to let everyone know your good news.  That is often what people did when Jesus walked the earth.  And they didn’t skimp on the invitation—but invited all who would come and join the celebration.  So much so that the religious leaders of that time scorned Jesus for spending so much time at parties and with all kinds of disreputable characters.

Jesus response—“Hey, I came to rescue the disreputable characters.  My purpose is coming to earth was to invite all to a changed life from the inside out.  That is the best reason of all to celebrate.  Send the invite out far and wide—whosoever will may come!” And the invite hasn’t changed down through the ages.  As long as the earth exists, the invite will continue to go out.  It is delivered through My Word, to My followers, who then pass it on to all others.  When your heart is right the party is always going on.

Good news is meant to be shared.  And what better way to share it than with a party of rejoicing from a heart full of thanksgiving.  Count your blessings instead of your pains and you will find far more reasons to rejoice than complain.  I am calling you to rejoice through the words and deeds of your life—wherever you are whatever you are doing.  Be a living testimony to the joy you have received through Jesus forgiveness of sins and hope of eternity in heaven.  Others, all others you meet, should feel as though to be in your presence is to have come to a party.  Put on a happy face and invite your world to join My party.

God’s Question: Are people drawn to you because of your joy?

God’s Promise: My followers receive My strength to do My tasks.

My Prayer to God:

I Praise You for your deep inner joy we can have at all time.

I am Sorry I ever put on a sad face and ignore Your joy.

Thank You for reminding me to be happy for Your sake.

Please help me spread your joy to all I am around.

Beyond the Shadow of a Doubt

22 Oct

God’s Word: Luke 1:1-25

God’s Message to me: (My interpretation of what God is saying in these verses)

Luke, the writer of “Luke” is the only non-Jewish writer of the New Testament. 02 Newborn-baby-001 As an “outsider” himself, he shows how Jesus included those who were typically treated as outsiders by the religious establishment of the day.  I spoke through Luke to throw the doors wide open and welcome all ethnic groups into My family.  He writes his perspective of Jesus’ life based on what he gleaned from the original eyewitnesses to Jesus life and work.  He stated that the purpose for his writing was that readers would know, beyond the shadow of a doubt, the reliability of the events of Jesus life.

The book of Luke begins with an unusual birth—foretold by My angel Gabriel.  John (called the Baptist) by those of his day, was born in his parents old age.  His father was a priest and while carrying out his duty he encountered the angel that gave him the good news of the birth of a son—John.  There was much rejoicing over John’s birth after a long and childless life.  I chose this couple to parent John, who I called from the womb to be My messenger, the forerunner to Jesus.

I wish you to know, beyond the shadow of a doubt, that every child conceived has value and purpose in My sight.   Therefore, to purposely snuff out the life of a conceived child is to rob from humanity.  It is to thwart My purpose for that child.  Even though some might think the pregnancy is untimely—the child has value and purpose.  Woe to those who abort these precious lives and double woe to those to profit from these deaths. No child is conceived without My permission.  The child is not to pay for the sin of the parents.

God’s Question: Do you realize how precious you are in My sight?

God’s Promise: You are My child and I am your Father.

My Prayer to God:

I Praise You for Luke’s writing of this gospel.

I am Sorry our society regards some babies as disposable.

Thank You that my parents allowed You to give me life.

Please help me fulfill the purpose you have for my life.
