Follow the Light

10 Aug

God’s WordPsalms 119:105-112

God’s Attribute: Lightens our path of lifeFollow the light (2)

God’s Message to me:

My Word (the Bible) was given to light up the path of your life so you can see clearly.  The more you read the Word, the more light you have.  There is no need to stumble through life when I am eager to share My light with you.  When you feel like your life is falling apart you will find the guidance you need in My Word to put it back together.

The stories, sayings and rules found in My Word are there to guide you into the happiest life you could possibly have.  They are not given to hinder but to free you.  Truth frees!  When others try to throw you off track, the truths you have gleaned from My Word will keep you strong and help you see the path of your life clearly.

My Word is a book on living and it is yours forever.  My Word never changes and My promises never fail. This is My gift to you and includes with it joy unspeakable.  When you focus your life on My Word and live according to My guidelines you will experience a peace that passes understanding–no matter the circumstances of your life.

God’s Question for me

Will you follow the LIGHT of My WORD so I can light up your life with peace and joy?

God’s Promise to me

There is no night so dark that My Word cannot bring a glimmer of light and hope.

My Prayer to Emulate God’s Attributes:  I Pledge:

My mind: To continually feed on Your Words of life!

My voice:  To encourage others with gems from Your Word.

My heart:  To be devoted to following You with my whole heart.

My body:  To serve as Your hands and feet to those around me.

A Blessing for Families

15 Jan

Genesis 12:1 & 3  God told Abram: “Leave your country, your family, and your father’s home for a land I will show you. . . . . . .   All the families of the earth will be blessed through you.”

Lessons for Living Today:

Blessings follow those who follow God.  BlessingsMy blessings are not the same as your blessings.  God tailor-makes blessings to custom-fit each individual.  To be blessed by God is to receive His favor and protection.  Oh, how God loves blessing people.  A parent loves giving gifts to their children and God loves giving us gifts.  However, too often we ignore God’s gifts.  How do we feel when gifts we give others are ignored?

God’s blessing on Abram continues to us today. Because he was obedient to God the course of history was changed.  He went to where God needed his help and did what God called him to do.  Through Abram’s seed came the birth of Jesus Christ.  Yes, all the families of the earth are blessed in Christ—which came to be because of Abram’s obedience.

We too can deliver blessings to future generations.  As Abram followed God we too can follow—as we read His Word and pray for His guidance.  Our lives can serve as the foundation upon which future generations build their relationship with God.  As they find us faithful—they too will desire the blessings we have experienced by living faithful lives.  God’s favor and protection is a gift to be valued above all else.  That does not mean our lives will be a “bed of roses” but that He will be with us, through it all, and protect us from the evil one who desires to turn our hearts away from God.  God’s blessings are or the highest order and the return rate is “out of this world!”

God’s Question: Will future generations be blessed through you?

God’s Promise: Draw near to Me and I will draw near to you.

My Prayer to God:

I praise You for Your presence as we read Your Word.

I am sorry I too often ignore Your presence.

Thank You for Your eagerness to bless my life.

Help me eagerly desire to be a blessing to others.

Would you be Chosen?

God’s Word: Mark 3:7-20

God’s Message to me: (My interpretation of what God is saying in these verses)

In the throngs of people who followed Jesus, He chose 12 and set them apart as His Apostles.  ChosenThe plan for them was that they would be with Him and He would then send them out to proclaim the Word and banish demons.  You might say these were the “cream of the crop” of followers.  Each of them brought unique capabilities to the table.  They were ready and available when Jesus chose them to go on mission for Him.

Suppose you would have been in that crowd of Jesus followers?  What is there about you that would have caused Jesus to choose you?  Do you know He is still choosing people today?  His original 12 have long been gone but there continues to me work to be done—a message to be delivered to all of mankind.  His invitation goes out to everyone but only those who respond are chosen for His tasks.  Have you responded?  What is there about your life that would cause others to notice that you are a Jesus follower?

What beat of the drum are you following?  The words you speak and the activities you partake in tell the world what drum you are following.  The drum of pleasure is often the loudest.  You have to ignore that drum and listen closely to that gentle drum that calls you to reach out to the needs of others.  Though you might think there is much satisfaction in pleasure you will find that it is short-lived.  True pleasure that is the result of service is both fulfilling and motivating.  That is the pleasure I give to those who follow the drum of Jesus.

God’s Question:  What drum-beat is calling for your attention?

God’s Promise:  I take your treatment of others personally.

My Prayer to God:

I Praise You for calling me into Your service.

I am Sorry I fail to step out for You all too often.

Thank You for helping me in my weaknesses.

Please help me listen to and follow your drum call.

Final Marching Orders

23 Jul

God’s Word: Matthew 28: 16-20

God’s Message to me: (My interpretation of what God is saying in these verses)

I am not looking for perfect people to send out on My mission.  commissionI am looking for those who believe My Word and follow My Son.  I can take whatever you dish out and turn it into a feast for others to enjoy.  The real issue is not who you are but “whose” you are.  To those who follow My Son—I bestow upon them the same righteousness He has. You are as perfect as Christ in My sight.

These are the kind of people to whom Jesus gave His final marching orders. Not perfect people but perfected through Jesus sacrifice on their behalf.  And this was his charge: “God authorized and commanded Me to commission you: Go out and train everyone you meet, far and near, in this way of life, marking them by baptism in the three-fold name: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.  Then instruct them in the practice of all I have commanded you.  I’ll be there with you as you do this, day after day after day, right up to the end of the age.”

Take a look at your life—are you following these marching orders?  Does your life smack of your involvement in My Word and with Christ?  What are you investing your time in doing?  Where are you investing your money?  Remember, I gave you your passions and interests so you could be more fruitful for My Kingdom. I even prepared beforehand the work for you to do.   Have you used your passions for your own advantage and ignored this mission Christ gave you?  Who will do the work I gave you to do?  Perhaps no one!

God’s Question: Whose marching orders are you following?

God’s Promise: To follow Jesus’ marching orders is to invite Him to share your life and walk right beside you.

My Prayer to God

I praise You for opportunities to share Your Good News.

I am sorry I get so engrossed in my life I forget my calling.

Thank You for forgiving me and helping me refocus.

Help me be forgiving of all others and help them see Jesus.

Fear That Disables

25 Oct

God’s Word:  Proverbs 29

God’s Message to Me:

“The fear of human opinion disables; trusting in God protects you from that.”  As you read My Word, pray for My guidance, and proceed to follow My leading—other will mock you.  That is because I deal with each person individually. Others will not understand you because I did not reveal your plans to them.

My wisdom is given to the one who follows the path I have laid out for them.  Many times people are so fearful of what others will think or say that they won’t even start down the path.  I don’t give out tomorrow’s guidance today.  As you put one foot in front of the other and proceed down the path—you will receive My guidance.

Do not fret!  Look to My Word for guidance and proceed through life as I lead you.  I will be with you wherever you go!  All things work together for good to those who love me and are called according to My purposes.  Do not fret about what others will say but about how you will feel if you fail to follow My leading.  Fear that disables is Satan’s way of putting a road-block in following My path.

God’s Question to Me:  What have you put off doing because of this disabling fear?

God’s Promise to Me:   If you can’t see what I am doing, you’ll  stumble all over yourself; but when you attend to what I reveal, you are most blessed.

My Song to God:           Trust and Obey    by John H Sammis  1887

When we walk with the Lord in the light of His Word,
What a glory He sheds on our way!
While we do His good will, He abides with us still,
And with all who will trust and obey.
Refrain:
Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.

Not a shadow can rise, not a cloud in the skies,
But His smile quickly drives it away;
Not a doubt or a fear, not a sigh or a tear,
Can abide while we trust and obey.

Refrain:
Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.

Not a burden we bear, not a sorrow we share,
But our toil He doth richly repay;
Not a grief or a loss, not a frown or a cross,
But is blessed if we trust and obey.

Refrain:
Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.

But we never can prove the delights of His love
Until all on the altar we lay;
For the favor He shows, for the joy He bestows,
Are for them who will trust and obey.

Refrain:
Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.

Then in fellowship sweet we will sit at His feet,
Or we’ll walk by His side in the way;
What He says we will do, where He sends we will go;
Never fear, only trust and obey.

Refrain:
Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.
