Jesus’ Family Tree

God’s Word:  Matthew 1jesus-family-tree

God’s Message:   (My interpretation of what God is saying in these verses)

Your family tree carries the history of your family but it doesn’t determine your destiny.  Each generation makes its own choices—for good or ill.  For the person who loves Me and looks to Me for guidance, even in their failures, I will make all things work together for good.  The family tree of Jesus was not made up of perfect people.  There were liars, cheaters, wife stealers, selfish people, and the whole gamut of sins.   Jesus did not let his ancestry determine his destiny.  He chose a destiny to live and die for others sake.

Joseph, the man I chose to be the husband of Mary, Jesus mother, was handpicked by Me, based upon the choices he made in life—not because of his heritage.  He was a good man that I knew would care for and train Jesus in His growing up years.  Joseph chose his destiny when he believed the angel I sent in a dream.  The message he received was not an easy one to swallow.  “His girlfriend was pregnant with a Spirit-conceived son.”

Rather than dismiss the dream, and Mary as his intended, he did just what the angel commanded him.  He married Mary but did not consummate the marriage until after Jesus was born.  Mary gave birth to Jesus as a virgin.  The angel gave Joseph the name for the baby—“Jesus—meaning ‘God saves.’”  Loved one—I orchestrated the writing of the Bible as the family tree of humanity.  As you read and heed, you will come face to face with Jesus, My Son, sent to bring you salvation.

God’s Question: What destiny are you choosing for your life?

God’s Promise: To those who choose to align their destiny with My higher purposes for life—there is joy unspeakable and full of glory.

My Prayer to God:

I praise You for giving us wisdom in choosing our destiny.

I am sorry that I often ignore Your wisdom and make foolish choices.

Thank You for Jesus’ forgiveness that covers the faults of my choices.

Help me to daily align my life with your purposes for living and live in victory, come what may.

Your Family Tree

Genesis 36:9  This is the family tree of Esau

Lessons for Living Today:

Why bother with a family tree?  ?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????Is there value in knowing who came before you in your family line?  Yes, the family tree has many good uses. By creating a family tree the fabric of humanity is woven together through formal record-keeping of important dates and information about those who have died. It is a keeping of the family circle for the benefit of those yet to come, thereby tethering together generations that would otherwise not know each other. To feel a part of this intergenerational family—larger than your own life—gives a person a feeling of belonging, of roots, and of value.

The family tree is valuable because you are valuable.  God’s love flows to the world through families.  You are who you are largely because of the fabric that was woven through your family tree.  To look at my family tree gives me a feeling of responsibility.  All of these who have gone before me have given me life and I want to make them proud of the way I have lived my life.  Their blood flows through my veins and I feel this inseparable connection to them.  What they wish they would have done—I can now do.

Even more than giving me something to live up to, I want my life to count in moving coming generations to the greatest reason for living—Christ in me—my hope of glory.  I want to be found faithfully following My Lord throughout my life.  I hope my name on the family tree will be more than just a name with the dates of my birth and death.  I want to leave behind footprints that lead coming generations to the foot of the cross.  The Family Tree contains the footprints of those who have gone before with an invitation to follow the Lord—come what may.

God’s Question: Will you so live to bless coming generations?

God’s Promise: Whosoever will may join My family.

My Prayer to God:

I praise You for the blessing of family.

I am sorry I don’t live more with eternity’s values in view.

Thank You for reminding me of what is really important.

Help me so live that my memory is a blessing.

The Forever Family Tree

13 Jan

Genesis 10:1  This is the family tree of the sons of Noah: Shem, Ham, and Japheth.

Lessons for Living Today:

What is the value of tracing the family tree?  family treeThere is a deep sense of identity when a person knows those who came before them—whose very blood flows in their veins.  It gives me a feeling of responsibility.  My ancestors’ lives are over.  All that they lived for and strove to accomplish are done—finished–but I am here and alive today.  What advice would they give me, if they could, about what is really important in life?  When I understand what was important to them, it gives me direction and a sense of being grounded.

The past is the foundation upon which our lives are laid.  God provided us all with a firm foundation through the Bible and invites all to become part of His forever family tree.  The ancestry charts that fill the pages of the Bible are our ancestry charts.  We belong!  All of humanity is woven into the tapestry of the Bible.  We can read the Bible to find out what “our ancestors” spent their lives doing.  We can choose today what we spend our lives doing.

Choose today how you want to be remembered—then get busy.  We are living links in God’s forever family tree.  Let’s grasp all that is good, pure and holy from the past lives of those who have gone before and seek to pass it on.  Let’s give our descendants something to live up to—not a skeleton in their closet.  The life’s choices Jesus made changed human history by his sacrifice on behalf of you and me. He invited us to join His forever family.  We can choose to join His family and live our lives with purpose and meaning—as He did.

God’s Question: Will your branch of the “tree” flourish or wilt?

God’s Promise: Whoever will come to Jesus joins My family tree.

My Prayer to God:

I praise You for Your amazing Word that gives me direction.

I am sorry I don’t always obey Your Word.

Thank You for even wanting me in Your family.

Help me invite others to join Your forever family.

God’s Word: Acts 3:12-26

God’s Message to me: (My interpretation of what God is saying in these verses)

You are a sprout on your family tree. Jesus family tree Will you be a healthy branch of will you be a blight?  The choice is entirely in your hands.  Choices you make will affect your descendants for generations.  Choose carefully what you are leaving in your wake.  You cannot change the past but you can change the future.  Life is brief!  Eternity is forever!  Will you leave behind a path for descendants to follow?  And where will that path lead?

Jesus also had a family tree.  Not all of His ancestors left a perfect path for Him to follow.  He placed no blame but made wise choices for His own life.  By reading the New Testament you will find His life characterized by living for others.  His path led to the sick, the demon possessed, the liars, the cheaters, yes, even those who died.  His life was an offering on behalf of helping others make better choices.  By following His path of living you will find the best of both worlds—the here and now, and the heavenly realm.

Those who believe in Christ Jesus as the path to God are grafted into My forever family tree—adopted as My chosen children.  Jesus purpose in life was to invite whosoever would believe in Him—forgiveness of sin and life eternal.  Before He left earth He passed His mission on to His followers.  No one is to be excluded from hearing His message of forgiveness and acceptance.  You are His messenger.  Your life is your message.  What is the message others are getting from your life?  Are they drawn to Jesus or turned away?  Your choices today affect others tomorrows and even their eternal destiny.

God’s Question: Can I count on you to invite others into My family?

God’s Promise: Faith in Jesus covers a multitude of sins.

My Prayer to God:

I Praise You for Jesus’ example of living for others.

I am Sorry I am way too often selfish.

Thank You for calling me to be Your messenger.

Please Help Me be faithful to Your trust.

My Song to God:  Face to Face  by Carrie E Breck 1898

  1. Face to face with Christ, my Savior,
    Face to face—what will it be,
    When with rapture I behold Him,
    Jesus Christ who died for me?

    • Refrain:
      Face to face I shall behold Him,
      Far beyond the starry sky;
      Face to face in all His glory,
      I shall see Him by and by!
  2. Only faintly now I see Him,
    With the darkened veil between,
    But a blessed day is coming,
    When His glory shall be seen.

    • Refrain:
      Face to face I shall behold Him,
      Far beyond the starry sky;
      Face to face in all His glory,
      I shall see Him by and by!
  3. What rejoicing in His presence,
    When are banished grief and pain;
    Death is swallowed up in vict’ry,
    And the dark things shall be plain.

    • Refrain:
      Face to face I shall behold Him,
      Far beyond the starry sky;
      Face to face in all His glory,
      I shall see Him by and by!
  4. Face to face—oh, blissful moment!
    Face to face—to see and know;
    Face to face with my Redeemer,
    Jesus Christ who loves me so.

    • Refrain:
      Face to face I shall behold Him,
      Far beyond the starry sky;
      Face to face in all His glory,
      I shall see Him by and by!
