God’s Comforter

1 Apr

God’s WordPsalms 119:73-80

God’s Attribute: Gives comfort

God’s Message to me:

I knew you before you were even born.  Whatever the circumstances of your birth, I saw your life laid out before you, and provided opportunities for you to follow My path of victory.  But I gave you totally free choice to choose or reject My wisdom.  How I am honored and blest when you choose to follow Me.  Draw near to Me and I will teach you what is true and right.  My comfort will surround your life so you can live life to the fullest.  Whatever the circumstances you find yourself in—I am eager to be your Comforter.

When you fix your mind on My counsel, instead of buying into the worlds bill of goods, I will give you wisdom and a deep peace that passes all understanding.  When you walk with Me at your side you can hold your head high with confidence for you know victory is in store.  The world tries to make you fit into its mold of self-centeredness, but I call you to live a selfless life.  Receiving from Me and giving to others is what life is all about.  I give to you so you can give to others.

I give you love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control so you can give these same attributes to others.  In the same way, My comfort I give you, not just for you to be comfortable but for you to be a comforter for others.

God’s Question for me

Will you step outside of your comfort zone and extend My comfort to those in need?

God’s Promise to me:

To the extent that you comfort others—I comfort you!

My Prayer to Emulate God’s Attributes:  I Pledge:

My mind: May I always seek to be Your comforter to others.

My voice:  To speak comforting words whatever the situation.

My heart:  May Your love flow into others lives through my heart.

My body:  To be your vessel of comfort to the hurting around me.

Poppy-Seed Faith

25 Jan

God’s Word: Matthew 17:14-23

God’s Message to me: (My interpretation of what God is saying in these verses)poppy-seeds

Mountain-top experiences must carry you through the valleys.  At the bottom of the mountain are people waiting for you to help.  People have needs and other people are meant to minister to those needs.  Are there some people with un-met needs because you are turning your head?  Draw wisdom and strength from My Word in order to help others.  My comfort is given to you to make you a comforter—not merely for your own comfort.

You don’t need bottomless resources before you can reach out and meet needs.  All you need is a seed of faith to start—as small as a poppy seed.  As you plant the tiny seed the plant grows and flourishes and meets needs around you.  As you watch the miracle unfold you find your faith is also unfolding.  With faith you can move mountains.  There is nothing you would not be able to tackle with even a grain of faith.

I’m not looking for people with great faith but for those who will take My Word seriously.  Come to the mountain-top of My Word and let me empower you to climb back down the mountain and mingle with and meet the needs of people.  Sharing My love with the needs of others opens the eyes of their hearts to My love.  Your job is to prepare the soil by sprinkling on the love that makes it ready to grow.  The simplest acts done with a sincere heart full of love—will take root and grow.  Let Me take care of the rooting and growing.  Your just keep pouring on the love.

God’s Question:

Is your life focused on gathering seeds of goodness for yourself or sharing those seeds with others?

God’s Promise:

When just a poppy-seed faith in My Word and Power there is nothing you could not accomplish in My name.

My Prayer to God

I praise You for using us in our tiny poppy-seed faith.

I am sorry we keep waiting for more poppy seeds before starting.

Thank You for reminding us that our job is to plant, Yours to grow.

Help me sprinkle my poppy-seed faith far and wide.

Total Life-Change

26 Mar

God’s Word: Luke 24:44-53

God’s Message to me: (My interpretation of what God is saying in these verses)

Jesus, Messiah—meaning God with us, visited earth over 2000 years ago to set all humanity upside-right. new life A total life-change is offered through Jesus of forgiveness of sins.  Since sin cannot co-exist with Me—forgiveness wipes your slate clean and makes you fit to spend eternity in My heaven.  Therefore, apart from this forgiveness that Jesus offers you freely—there is no hope of eternal life in heaven.  The choice is totally yours!  Choose Jesus forgiveness and spend eternity in His presence.  Share Jesus and others can receive forgiveness.

Having Jesus present with his followers gave them courage and comfort to face life challenges.  As He prepared to leave earth and return to heaven He told them He would not leave them alone but send a comforter to be their constant companion, giving strength, courage, comfort and an unspeakable joy.  That presence is My Holy Spirit that comes to dwell with you as you come to accept Jesus forgiveness through submission to baptism in His name.

Acts 2:30 promises forgiveness of sins and the presence of the Holy Spirit through baptism. Peter said, “Change your life. Turn to God and be baptized, each of you, in the name of Jesus Christ, so your sins are forgiven. Receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” Jesus did His part–becoming the sacrifice in your place.  Through His death you too can die to sin and rise to walk with a total life-change.  It is not a one-time experience but through My abiding presence (the Holy Spirit) I will walk with you through every day of your life.  I will go with you through the hard times and be your constant comfort and joy.

God’s Question: How are you nurturing your relationship with Me?

God’s Promise: Nothing can separate you from My love—but you.

My Prayer to God:

I Praise You for your constant abiding presence of peace and joy.

I am Sorry I too often ignore Your presence.

Thank You that you never leave or forsake me.

Please help me constantly be aware of Your presence.

Forget About Yourself

11 Apr

God’s Word: Matthew 10:29-42

God’s Message to me: (My interpretation of what God is saying in these verses)

Jesus said “stand up for me against world opinion and I’ll stand up for you before My Father in heaven.available hand  If you turn tail and run, do you think I’ll cover for you?”  Jesus didn’t die on the cross to make you comfortable but to make you a comforter.  Those who forget about themselves and reach out to others find their real meaning in life and draw near to Me.

As you involve yourself in my harvest work I am working right along with you.  Those who accept you, accept Me, just as those who accepted Jesus accepted Me.  Remember that accepting a messenger of God is as good as being God’s messenger.  Accepting someone’s help is as good as giving someone help.

I have not called you unto Myself for a life of ease but a life of sacrifice.  In sacrificing your time, your money, yourself for others, you are in actuality doing it for me.  And accepting help from others, when you are in need, is the same as accepting it from Me.  This is a large work I have called My followers to perform but don’t be overwhelmed.  In the smallest act of giving or receiving you become My apprentice.  You will never lose out on the abundant life, no matter have much you give away on My behalf.

God’s Question: What activity will you do today in forgetting about yourself and caring for others?

God’s Promise: Strength for the day, rest for the labor, light for the way, grace for the trails, help from above, unfailing kindness, undying love.

My Prayer to God

I praise You for Your presence as we offer service to others.

I am sorry I spend more time thinking about self than others.

Thank You for all your promises as we walk the path of life.

Help me forget about myself and reach out to others.

Comfort, Don’t Condemn

25 Mar

God’s WordMatthew 7:21-23   Jesus said, “Knowing the correct password—saying ‘Master, Master’ for instance—isn’t going to get you anywhere with me.  What is required is serious obedience—doing what my Father wills.  I can see it now—at the Final Judgment thousands strutting up to me and saying, ‘Master, we preached the Message, we bashed the demons, our God-sponsored projects had everyone talking.’ And do you know what I am going to say?  ‘You missed the boat.  All you did was use me to make yourselves important.  You don’t impress me one bit.  You’re out of here.’”

Jesus’ Message to Me: (My interpretation of what Jesus is saying in these verses)

Many have the head knowledge about God but have never connected that with the heart.  comforting_handThere is a huge difference.  A person could memorize the entire Bible and answer all the questions correctly, but still flunk the final test.  That test takes place on the heart level—known only by God.  That is why I remind you not to go around condemning others for you do not have access to the heart as God does.

God does not condemn anyone—so how can you dare to do such a thing.  Each person is redeemed or condemned at the heart level—based on their obedience to the understanding of God they have achieved.  Look at the birds of the air and the lily’s of the field!  You can plainly see that they obey God’s directions.  If even nature follows God then mankind too will be held responsible to follow God.

To hear and know God’s Word is not sufficient. Follow the example of the birds and flowers—obey that inner voice of God calling you on the heart level to obedience.  God’s call upon your life does not inhibit your creativity but unleashes all that you are capable of doing and becoming.  Rather than restrain—you are released—to love, joy, and peace.  God does not give simply to make you comfortable but to cause you to become His comforters.  For in the comforting of others, you receive God’s comfort in a way that your cup is full and spilling over.

Jesus’ Question for Me: Who will accompany you to heaven because you wrapped the comforter of God’s love around them in this life?

Jesus’ Promise to Me: As you comfort, so shall you be comforted.

My Prayer to God

I praise You for Your amazing grace that loves and comforts me.

I am sorry I don’t do a better job of passing that on.

Thank you for each new day of life to discover Your grace anew.

Help me draw near to You through caring for others.

Beyond the Stars

4 Feb

God’s Word:  Matthew 5:17, 18, Jesus said “Don’t suppose for a minute that I have come to demolish the Scriptures—either God’s Law or the Prophets.  I’m not here to demolish but to complete.  I am going to put it all together, pull it all together in a vast panorama.  God’s Law is more real and lasting that the stars in the sky and the ground at your feet.  Long after stars burn out and earth wears out, God’s Law will be alive and working.”

Jesus’ Message to Me: (My interpretation of what Jesus is saying in these verses)

The Old Testament Law was put in place to help mankind curb their tendency to sin.  If they would just obey the starslaws then they would be free from sin.  But the people found that forcing their body to go through certain rituals for cleansing did not change their heart, their motives. It was a constant battle between sinning and cleansing.

God saw that mankind was unable to change their heart.  But that doesn’t mean the Old laws were imperfect—but that mankind was imperfect.  Therefore, He chose a way to make a change in mankind’s imperfect condition—to offer him a solution to his tendency to sin—a way to be forgiven.  God came to earth in the body of a human, and I My name is Jesus Christ.  My task was to live the human life free from sin—to show that it could be done.

As the Old Testament required a sacrifice of the blood of an animal without blemish for sinning I gave My life as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of mankind–so you could be forgiven.  You no longer need to follow every detail of the law in order to receive cleansing.  By My death your sins are “washed away” in the simple act of baptism.  Dying to sin—rising to walk in a forgiven state.  God’s Law remains in effect, even beyond the stars, for those who reject My gift of salvation.

Jesus’ Question for Me: Are you merely comforted by My forgiveness or are you becoming a comforter so others will come to understand the forgiveness I long to give them too?

Jesus’ Promise to Me:  I forgive you!  As far as the east is from the west, so far do I remove your sins–when you seek My forgiveness.

My Prayer to God:

I praise You for my confidence in You that lasts beyond the stars.

I am sorry for not expressing my confidence in You, more to others.

Thank You for drawing me to Yourself and giving me eternal hope.

Help me share your love and forgiveness with all those my life touches.
