God’s Comforter

1 Apr

God’s WordPsalms 119:73-80

God’s Attribute: Gives comfort

God’s Message to me:

I knew you before you were even born.  Whatever the circumstances of your birth, I saw your life laid out before you, and provided opportunities for you to follow My path of victory.  But I gave you totally free choice to choose or reject My wisdom.  How I am honored and blest when you choose to follow Me.  Draw near to Me and I will teach you what is true and right.  My comfort will surround your life so you can live life to the fullest.  Whatever the circumstances you find yourself in—I am eager to be your Comforter.

When you fix your mind on My counsel, instead of buying into the worlds bill of goods, I will give you wisdom and a deep peace that passes all understanding.  When you walk with Me at your side you can hold your head high with confidence for you know victory is in store.  The world tries to make you fit into its mold of self-centeredness, but I call you to live a selfless life.  Receiving from Me and giving to others is what life is all about.  I give to you so you can give to others.

I give you love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control so you can give these same attributes to others.  In the same way, My comfort I give you, not just for you to be comfortable but for you to be a comforter for others.

God’s Question for me

Will you step outside of your comfort zone and extend My comfort to those in need?

God’s Promise to me:

To the extent that you comfort others—I comfort you!

My Prayer to Emulate God’s Attributes:  I Pledge:

My mind: May I always seek to be Your comforter to others.

My voice:  To speak comforting words whatever the situation.

My heart:  May Your love flow into others lives through my heart.

My body:  To be your vessel of comfort to the hurting around me.

God’s Word:  Psalms 91in good hands

God’s Attribute: (15)  I’ll give you the best of care if you’ll only get to know and trust me.  . . . . .God

God’s Message to me:

There is nothing in this life that can separate you from My love—except your refusal to get to know and trust Me.  There is no valley so deep and dark that I will not be your constant companion and will give you peace and joy amidst whatever sorrows await there.

Always remember that whether you are on the mountain top of joy or the valley of sorrow, I am there too and eager to wrap My loving arms of peace around your heart which will fend off all harm.  There is nothing in this life that can take away that peace.  But you make the choice to receive it.

I am eager to be your refuge.  As a parent is eager to comfort their child, I am eager to comfort you.  When you are weak, I am still strong and will give you the strength to go on.  I will provide you with the best of care in the worst of circumstances.  Please don’t worry about the future.  I am there too.

God’s question for me

Will you hold onto Me for dear life when the storms of life rage?

God’s promise to me

Call Me and I’ll answer, be at your side in bad times. . . I’ll rescue you.

My prayer to God

  1. Adoration:  It is so comforting to know that whatever the future—You are there and will go with us step by step.
  2. Confession: I am sorry when I worry about the unknown future for I know You hold all my tomorrows in safe keeping.
  3. Thanksgiving: I am so thankful that You will always be with me.  You certainly have taken the best of care of me and my family.  We rest in joy in You.
  4. Supplication:  I want to offer my heart and hands to others on Your behalf.  Please guide me in serving others.

Poppy-Seed Faith

25 Jan

God’s Word: Matthew 17:14-23

God’s Message to me: (My interpretation of what God is saying in these verses)poppy-seeds

Mountain-top experiences must carry you through the valleys.  At the bottom of the mountain are people waiting for you to help.  People have needs and other people are meant to minister to those needs.  Are there some people with un-met needs because you are turning your head?  Draw wisdom and strength from My Word in order to help others.  My comfort is given to you to make you a comforter—not merely for your own comfort.

You don’t need bottomless resources before you can reach out and meet needs.  All you need is a seed of faith to start—as small as a poppy seed.  As you plant the tiny seed the plant grows and flourishes and meets needs around you.  As you watch the miracle unfold you find your faith is also unfolding.  With faith you can move mountains.  There is nothing you would not be able to tackle with even a grain of faith.

I’m not looking for people with great faith but for those who will take My Word seriously.  Come to the mountain-top of My Word and let me empower you to climb back down the mountain and mingle with and meet the needs of people.  Sharing My love with the needs of others opens the eyes of their hearts to My love.  Your job is to prepare the soil by sprinkling on the love that makes it ready to grow.  The simplest acts done with a sincere heart full of love—will take root and grow.  Let Me take care of the rooting and growing.  Your just keep pouring on the love.

God’s Question:

Is your life focused on gathering seeds of goodness for yourself or sharing those seeds with others?

God’s Promise:

When just a poppy-seed faith in My Word and Power there is nothing you could not accomplish in My name.

My Prayer to God

I praise You for using us in our tiny poppy-seed faith.

I am sorry we keep waiting for more poppy seeds before starting.

Thank You for reminding us that our job is to plant, Yours to grow.

Help me sprinkle my poppy-seed faith far and wide.

What’s Your Offer?

Leviticus 3

Lessons for Living Today:

When we want to make peace with another we may offer them something.  helpIt shows we genuinely are sorry there has been a rift and we want to make things “right” between us.  Now it helps if we know what will please the other person.  Here in Leviticus God helps the folks out by telling them what sort of offering it will take to make peace with Him.  It is no slight matter to create a rift between ourselves and God.  He is our Holy Creator and we are merely His amazing creation.  We owe our all to Him, our very life’s blood, for He is our designer and sustainer.

God’s offers to us have been many and far above anything we could do on our own.  His gift of life is amazing itself, but then there are the many offerings of air, water, food, protection, and all those things that sustain our lives.  All this and He has also instilled us each with passions and abilities to be His ambassadors to others in need.  He offers us life not simply to sustain us but so that we might be ready to sustain others in times of need.  He comforts us in our times of need so we might become His comforters to others.

Not only does God provide our daily needs but He has gifted us with His Words that show us the path to life eternal.  Jesus sacrificial death on our behalf is the light for that path.  In His light we find the light of God’s love for us than is unquenchable.  What could I ever offer God that could begin to show my appreciation for life both here and now and life eternal?  Since He died for me, I want to live for Him.  How can I do that?  Offer sacrificial service to others as unto Him!  He sacrificed so much for me, nothing short of my sacrificial giving/living to bless others will suffice.  Lord I need Your help and guidance to see others needs and reach out.

God’s Question: Will you share My blessings with others?

God’s Promise: My peace I give you.

My Prayer to God:

I praise You for Your wonderful offer of peace and salvation.

I am sorry I am not more willing to offer myself in Your service.

Thank You for the light of Jesus’ love that shows me how to live.

Help me be a beacon of light and love to my people.

Follow the Angel

23 Apr

Exodus 23:  God’s instructions for success in living.

Lessons for Living Today:

God sends His angel ahead of those who follow God’s leading. follow the angelHow cool this would be to know you are following God’s angel.  But, how does one know it is God’s angel they are following?  Well, first of all we must determine our goal in going that direction.  I ask myself, “Is this a direction Jesus Himself would go if He was here in the flesh right now?” What would make us believe Jesus would do what we were attempting to do?  Does it honor God?  Does it bless other people?  Does it point others to God through Jesus?

In Exodus 23 God gave the Israelites directions for following His angel.  He said (1) Pay close attention, (2) Obey Him. (3) Don’t go against Him.  Today we too can have God’s angel go before us.  We follow these same instructions by paying close attention to the Bible, obeying it, and not behaving against it.  God’s very Spirit will go before us to guard our steps and fight for our cause that honors Him.  In the Old Testament (Exodus) His Spirit is called His angel.  Now we know that it is God Himself that goes before us.

By following God he will clear our path of despair.  There is no need to despair when God is going before us.  Others around us may face despair but we have God’s very presence to guard our hearts and minds.  But we must take precautions to not get sidetracked and ignore God’s leading.  His leading always takes us to safe pastures and quite waters.  His comfort is abundant.  His peace of mind carries us through any sort of trouble that comes our way.  Because we are now living in the flesh, troubles may come, but he is our guide and stay and that is all we need for complete peace of mind.  God is our angel of deliverance that will make our paths safe.

God’s Question: Who or what are you following today?

God’s Promise: I’ll make sure you live complete and full lives!

My Prayer to God:

I praise You for Your peace that dissolves despair.

I am sorry I sometimes grab despair instead of Your peace.

Thank You for Your faithful Word that gives us peace and joy.

Help me let the beauty of Your peace radiate from my life.

Outside God’s Paradigm!

13 Apr

Exodus 16: How God provided bread and meat for the thousands of Israelites’ as they traveled the 40 years through the wilderness?

Lessons for Living Today:

How to provide food for thousands of people on a camping trip in the wilderness? quail“You’ve brought us out into this wilderness to starve us to death!”  But God already had a plan in place.  We too can trust that God has a plan in place when we face the unknown. God often provides help in a way outside of our paradigm. Nothing is outside of God’s Paradigm. Each evening God caused quail to fly into camp and crash at their feet.  Each morning there was a layer of dew on the ground.  When the dew lifted they found a fine flaky something, fine as frost on the ground.  The people gathered it and used it as bread.  God provided meat and bread, every day, 40 years.

God specializes in expanding paradigms.  Anything that doesn’t fit inside our paradigm we worry about.  Hold it!  Look back over your life.  How many impossible situations did you face?  Yet here you are, still alive and reading this.  It seems we never learn to simply trust God for the unknown.  We want to have control over our future and have a plan in place.  Do we think our plans would be better than Gods?  The Israelites could never have come up with a better plan than God’s to provide themselves with meat and bread. God’s plans are so much better than ours there is no comparison.

Let’s abandon our pre-conceived paradigms and trust God for all our tomorrows.  There is no need to worry when God is on the throne of our lives.  He’s got it all covered and will be with us through thick and thin.  Every pain, every sorrow, every challenge, His abiding presence will comfort and quiet.  We need only rest in Him and abandon our worries in His lap of peace.  He already has a plan to see us through to victory through Jesus for eternity.

God’s Question: Will you let Me take care of your tomorrows?

God’s Promise: I am with you and that is all you need.

My Prayer to God:

I praise You for providing my every need.

I am sorry I have wasted one minute of life in worry.

Thank You for the hope of eternal victory in heaven with You.

Help me share your borderless paradigm with all I meet.

Exodus 5:  Moses returns to Pharaoh with his request from God.

Lessons for Living Today:

My dad’s funny little words of comfort used to be “it will feel a lot better when it quits hurting.” Rescue In the midst of a terrible ear ache that gave me comfort.  It WILL feel better and it WILL quit hurting.  When Moses appeared before Pharaoh to “rescue” his people, Pharaoh all but laughed in his face.  Instead of rescuing the people it increased their brick-building burden. They were provided straw for making the bricks, and now they had to gather their own straw, but still make their quota of daily bricks.  Oh, how they complained.

Walking God’s path is not always the easiest path—but it always ends up in rescue.  Jesus followed God’s path completely but ended up dying a terrible death on a cross.  The death was terrible because our sin is terrible. That death paid the penalty for our sin.  In order for us to be “rescued from sin” Jesus died in our place.  And we who are rescued are now charged with the rescue of others. We must not just live and let live but we must stand up for God’s truth and justice and light the way for others to see the beauty of Jesus’ love.

Whatever pain we suffer, we who know and love Jesus are assured of rescue.  The problem is we get in our mind what that rescue should look like and if it doesn’t happen then we feel betrayed.  Moses’ people felt betrayed when their burden increased.  Even Moses felt betrayed by God.  Changing directions in life does not come easy or overnight.  But we CAN endure the rescue, whatever comes our way, in the peace that God gives to our hearts in the midst of the fray. We can know, without a shadow of a doubt that it WILL get better and the pain WILL go away. There is never a cause to worry or doubt.  God is on our side.

God’s Question: Will you allow My peace to relieve your pain?

God’s Promise: My peace I leave with you.

My Prayer to God:

I praise You for Your amazing gift of peace.

I am sorry I way too often fret instead of rest in You.

Thank You for the Bible stories that teach us so much.

Help me share Your comfort and peace all my life.
