Follow the Light

10 Aug

God’s WordPsalms 119:105-112

God’s Attribute: Lightens our path of lifeFollow the light (2)

God’s Message to me:

My Word (the Bible) was given to light up the path of your life so you can see clearly.  The more you read the Word, the more light you have.  There is no need to stumble through life when I am eager to share My light with you.  When you feel like your life is falling apart you will find the guidance you need in My Word to put it back together.

The stories, sayings and rules found in My Word are there to guide you into the happiest life you could possibly have.  They are not given to hinder but to free you.  Truth frees!  When others try to throw you off track, the truths you have gleaned from My Word will keep you strong and help you see the path of your life clearly.

My Word is a book on living and it is yours forever.  My Word never changes and My promises never fail. This is My gift to you and includes with it joy unspeakable.  When you focus your life on My Word and live according to My guidelines you will experience a peace that passes understanding–no matter the circumstances of your life.

God’s Question for me

Will you follow the LIGHT of My WORD so I can light up your life with peace and joy?

God’s Promise to me

There is no night so dark that My Word cannot bring a glimmer of light and hope.

My Prayer to Emulate God’s Attributes:  I Pledge:

My mind: To continually feed on Your Words of life!

My voice:  To encourage others with gems from Your Word.

My heart:  To be devoted to following You with my whole heart.

My body:  To serve as Your hands and feet to those around me.

Respond with a Smile

God’s Word: Ephesians 6  (The Message)

God’s Message to Me: (My interpretation of what God is saying through these verses)2013-10-15 Connie and 2

Who has authority over you—a boss, co-worker, professor, teacher, doctor, parent, law enforcement, government, or perhaps a care-giver?  I am aware that the one in authority can use their position unfairly. I want to help you deal with those times—here is my advice: respond respectfully as though you were responding to Me.  Never just do what you are required to do to “get by,” but put your heart into your work, following Christ’s example, doing your best as though it were Me calling the shots.  On top of that—do your work with a smile on your face because you know that I accept your service as done unto Me.

Everyone has a role to play.  The one in authority also has one in authority above them that may be dealing unfairly with them too.  You may be the end of the line where the frustration is taken out.  Don’t simply cower and submit—your role is to keep that smile on your face and do your work to the best of your ability as though it were Me you were trying to please.

Never fear—I have not left you without resources to deal with unfairness that is dealt you.  My Word is your indispensable weapon to combat the rebellion you feel.  Draw freely of My truth, righteousness, peace, faith and salvation.  Prayer is essential to helping you glean strength from My Word to keep that smile on your face and putting your heart into your work.  Never waste a moment of your precious life fretting over the things you can’t change.  Don’t let them be a drain on your health by harboring resentments.  Just hand it over to Me, draw freely from My strength—and put a smile on your face.

God’s Question for Me:

Are you using My Word and prayer to combat the unfair way those in authority over you are treating you?

God’s Promise to Me:

Draw near to Me and I will draw near to you.

My Prayer to God:

I Praise You for this simple reminder to do my work as unto You.

I am Sorry I don’t use this advice of Yours more frequently.

Thank You for Your timeless word that never grows outdated.

Please Help Me smile through whatever tough times lie ahead.

Climb Every Mountain

23 Jan

God’s Word: Matthew 17:1-13

God’s Message to me: (My interpretation of what God is saying in these verses)mountain

Mountain tops give the best view of life—physically and mentally.  Part of the benefit is the exercise of the climb, then the removing of oneself from the daily pressures of life.  Both body and mind are renewed and you receive fresh insights by looking from the different vantage point.  I created you to need these times of refreshing and renewal.

Each time you open My Word it can be a mountain-top experience.  Reading is part of the “climb”, that as you interact with Me through prayer; I will help you clearly see the next step to take.  To read, apart from inviting Me to be a participant, can be a step in futility.  It may seem confusing or conflicting or meaningless.  That is because apart from My presence the words are like a car without tires.  As I interact with you in My Word—it will make sense and I will speak directly to your heart and fill you with My joy.

Each time you climb a mountain you will get a different view.  So to with each time you open My Word.  As I interact with you, through My Word, I speak to your heart where you are today—not where you were yesterday, a month ago or ten years ago.  Your spiritual growth depends entirely upon the amount of time spent with Me, in My Word.  If you aren’t growing—it is because of your own refusal to read and heed.

God’s Question:

Are you willing to have a mountain-top experience today and every day with Me, in My Word?

God’s Promise:

As you read My Word and seek My Presence My heart will be knit together with yours in understanding.

My Prayer to God

I praise You for the way you work through Your Word.

I am sorry I don’t spend more hours in communion with You.

Thank You for giving me so many mountain-top experiences.

Help me share with others the beauty of Your climb.

Make the World a Better Place

Sterling Principle # 22

Proverbs 24:7Common-Sense

Wise conversation is way over the head of fools; in a serious discussion they haven’t a clue.

Ever had a job interview?  We usually “dress for success” and practice all our best manners for the big day.  That’s all important, but the employer is looking for someone with common sense and the words that come out of our mouths determine his decision. If common sense was more common our world would be a better place.

Just what is common sense?  One writer said it is the mental ability to cope with the challenges and opportunities of life. Lack of common sense causes us to make errors in judgment that most reasonable people would never make.  That is why many job interviews ask questions to see what kind on judgment we have. We may have a world of “education” but not be able to function with common sense in everyday decisions.

Can our common sense be improved?  Its foundation is based upon our life experiences, our parents and others example, and our accumulated knowledge.  It is strongly influenced by the moral compass we’re raised with and choose to live by.  These 30 sterling principles from Proverbs are training in common sense living.  God, our creator and sustainer, gifted us with the Bible to be our guide for successful living in society.  Familiarity with the Bible is training in wisdom with which common sense flourishes.

God’s Question: Do you need a little help in common sense?

God’s Promise: My Words give wisdom for life.

My Prayer to God:

I praise You for Your wisdom that so blesses my life.

I am sorry I too often ignore Your wisdom and act foolish.

Thank You for responding to my requests for wisdom.

Help me so live that others will see You in my life-choices.

What’s the Right Direction?

13 Oct

Sterling Principle # 15

Proverbs 23:19-21Direction

Oh listen, dear child—become wise; point your life in the right direction.  Don’t drink too much wine and get drunk; don’t eat too much food and get fat.  Drunks and gluttons will end up on skid row, in a stupor and dressed in rags.

To be addicted is to be compulsively controlled.  God’s best advice is to point our lives in the right direction—away from potentially addictive behaviors.  The “right direction,” is different for each person but has universal similarities.  God’s first major life-pointing-direction in the Bible is summed up in Exodus  20–the Ten Commandments. We don’t like the word “commandments” but God provided them to help prevent compulsive behaviors.

Many choices in this life lead us into compulsive behaviors.  Behaviors don’t come into our lives uninvited.  No one poured alcohol down the throat of a drunkard.  That was a life choice.  No one force-fed another in order to make them fat.  We make the choices about what we will eat.  Parenting has a HUGE impact on the direction of the children’s lives.  Example is everything!

God’s antidote for avoiding compulsive behaviors is to instead fill ourselves with His Spirit and which gives joy and peace without end. The Bible is the path to meeting God’s Spirit which is the key to living the life of an overcomer. The Bible provides each of us with a personalized life-pointing-direction that will bless our lives and always lead us in the right direction for maximum happiness.

God’s Question: Are you happy with the direction of your life?

God’s Promise: I am always available to help you make U-turns.

My Prayer to God:

I praise You for the deep peace You give through Your Word.

I am sorry I don’t always make the right choices.

Thank You for never leaving or forsaking me.

Help me so live to help others choose to follow You.

A Dancing Heart

9 Oct

Sterling Principle # 13

Proverbs 23:15, 16,Dancing heart

Dear child, if you become wise, I’ll be a happy parent. My heart will dance and sing to the tuneful truth you’ll speak.

What sets your heart to dancing?  There is good news that gives us pleasure but it takes really good news to set our hearts to dancing.  Some of the best news ever is our children living wisely and making good choices.  When I hear of a person who murdered someone and has a life prison sentence I whisper a prayer for their parent.  That must be  heartbreaking!  Could anything cheer up such a parent?

Parenting is tricky!  It usually only happens to young people who don’t have a lot of years of wisdom under their belt.  The most formative years of children takes place with the most unprepared parents possible. But since that is the way God planned it, He will help parents manage.  A big problem is that young parents don’t understand that their children are their number one responsibility.  Caring for their physical needs is important but also their emotional and spiritual needs.  Be there for them—pray for them!

God is eager to help young parents.  But He won’t step in unless He is invited.  His book the Bible is full of the best parental advice.  But unless you read it you miss out.  And to miss out on God’s great advice is to change the direction of future generations.  The foundation we give our children will determine their decisions as adults. Dancing hearts don’t just happen by accident.  They are the result of setting a good example for your children while young.

God’s Question: Had any heart dancing moments lately?

God’s Promise: Just ask, I am eager to help you parent.

My Prayer to God:

I praise You for raising my kids well in spite of my failures.

I am sorry I didn’t understand this parenting thing earlier.

Thank You for the dancing heart you have given me.

Help me to live before all others as a good example of Your love.

When God Doesn’t Make Sense

3 Jul

Leviticus 25

Lessons for Living Today:

Some of God’s instructions in the Bible don’t make sense. Question mark That is because He is “all-seeing and all-knowing.”  In the spiritual realm, in which He exists, there are no “time” limitations like we experience here on earth.  In this chapter he instructed the people to give their land a rest every seven years.  They were told to not plant or harvest but only eat that which voluntarily grows.  Then every 50 years was the year of Jubilee.  All land reverted to its original owner and again they were not to plant nor reap.  “But that doesn’t make sense, what will we eat?” the people cried out.  God’s reply: “I assure you, I will send such a blessing in the sixth year, (or the 50th year of Jubilee) that the land will yield enough for three years.”

When God’s instructions go against our common sense, we trust Him to provide whatever we need.  Suppose Jesus has responded “that doesn’t make sense” when He received the instructions to die on behalf of sinners?  Our view of what makes sense is strongly influenced by “what’s in it for me?” We want to see the unknown future to be sure we are going to benefit somehow.  While we can’t see the future, we have a record of God’s past dealing with humanity in the Bible.  We can know, beyond the shadow of a doubt, that what God says, God will do.  God is trustworthy.

We often realize we can’t even trust ourselves.  What we say we will do, we often fail to do.  Whether it be eating healthy, losing weight, reading the Bible, or exercising regularly.  We make ourselves promises we do not keep.  God’s promises will be kept.  Every word of God is a promise for it is impossible for God to lie.  Yes, Jesus will return, there is a heaven and hell, and we make our choice as to where to spend eternity while we live our lives.  God can be trusted to keep His word and He is where I place My trust!

God’s Question: Have you checked out My promises lately?

God’s Promise: My Bible provides you with eternal hope.

My Prayer to God:

I praise You for Your amazing and wonderful promises.

I am sorry I often live according to my selfish pleasures.

Thank You for reminding me that only You can be trusted.

Help me live daily completely trusting in You.
