God’s Word:  Matthew 2wise-men

God’s Message:   (My interpretation of what God is saying in these verses)

The Wise Men followed My star to find Mary, Joseph and Jesus.  Along the way, they encountered the arch-enemy of the child Jesus—Herod—the power-hungry king who even murdered his own sons to prevent them from taking his place as king.  “What?” Herod said. “There has been a new-born king?”  Herod pretended desire to worship this new king and told the Wise Men to let him know where He had been born.

An angel was sent to warn the wise men not to return to Herod.  Joseph too was warned by an angel to flee from Bethlehem to Egypt, because Herod was on the hunt for the child.  He obeyed and fled to Egypt.  Wicked Herod, enraged that he could not find the child, ordered all baby boys near Bethlehem murdered.  Joseph and his family remained in Egypt until after the death of Herod.  Once again, I sent an angel to tell Joseph it was safe to return home.

As I guided the circumstances around the birth and life of Jesus, I too am willing and eager to guide your life.  And I have a distinct vantage point that you are unable to see.  I can see the result of each of your choices.  Even though some of your foolish choices lead you down blind alleys—I will never leave nor forsake the one who turns to Me.  Instead of waiting until you are facing a brick wall—invite My guidance in your daily decisions.  My path doesn’t always lead through a rose garden but My daily presence in your life can give the bleakest of circumstances the fragrance of peace and inner joy.

God’s Question:  Are you happy with where your life is going?  Could you use a little help from Me?  I only come to help when invited.

God’s Promise:  The one who obeys the leading in My Word can be assured of My daily guiding presence.  Never will I turn from you.

My Prayer to God:

I praise You for your promise of guidance and I give myself to You.

I am sorry I am so easily tempted to stray from your guiding wisdom.

Thank You for forgiving and accepting me back into Your grace.

Help me to look to Your Word and listen to Your guidance.

The Depths of Jealousy

20 Jul

Matthew 2:13-23

Learning from Jesus’ Life:

Since the scholars didn’t return to Herod with the location of where Jesus was he went crazy.  green eyeAll he knew was that the baby was to be born in Bethlehem.  He didn’t know who the parents were—nothing.  So he flew into a rage and called for the murder of every boy baby in Bethlehem and surrounding hills to be put to death.  And so it was done.  Since God was on the side of Mary and Joseph, with baby Jesus, He sent an angel to tell them to flee to Egypt before this edict was announced.  So Jesus was safely out-of-town and escaped certain death from Herod.

After the death of Herod, the angel returned to Joseph with a message that it was safe to return home.  Once arriving in the vicinity of Bethlehem he heard that Herod’s son was now king.  He didn’t trust him anymore than Herod so went another direction, following the advice of the angel.  He settled in Nazareth.  Old Testament prophets had foretold that this “Messiah” would be called a Nazarene, and thus it was so.

Jealousy causes untold amounts of pain and suffering.   Jealousy is based upon a fear of losing something you want to hold onto.  Herod was afraid of losing the throne.  He was enraged when he heard that a new King had been born.  That jealousy caused him to do an unthinkable act; kill many innocent baby boys.  Jealousy is the opposite of how God calls us to live—being more concerned for the well-being of others than our own selves.  Instead the mantra of our society is “do what is right in your own eyes.”  We have drifted away from God’s call to be our brother’s keeper.  Instead we tout—live and let live!  Jealousy reigns and is destroying our society!

God’s Question: Will you be a beacon of My light to your world?

God’s Promise: You receive from Me what you give others.

My Prayer:

I praise You for this wake-up call to care for others.

I am sorry I have too often let jealousy dictate my words and deeds.

Thank You for Your forgiveness that makes me want to share.

Help me shine the light of Your love to others.

A Journey with God

11 May

Exodus 33:  Moses conversation with God.

Lessons for Living Today:

When God sends you on a journey, He sends an angel on ahead of you.  passportSo one would wonder—just what does this angel look like?  Will we even see the angel or be aware of his presence?  From my experience with what I consider as God’s angels, I believe they are dressed just like ordinary everyday people.  But they come into our lives during a moment of need and minister to that need in a way we didn’t know possible.  We may not even be aware of our need but their presence makes us aware of our deep need.  Our heart is touched in a special way as we interact with this one (an angel.)

So where are our lives headed?  Are we traveling through life as God’s ambassador or are we traveling solo to make a name for ourselves?  Many have made a name for themselves, but to what lasting benefit?  Names come and names go, but the Word of the Lord remains forever.  When we choose to walk on this journey of life following God’s leading, we will meet many angels along the way.  Some direct, some help, some feed, some protect, and some give encouragement in times of depression.

I believe we all have the possibility as serving as an angel of God along the journey of life.  As a matter of fact, I don’t think a person even has to be a follower of God to serve as His angel.  They may simply be a warm body in the right place at the right time to minister to the need of another.  They might not even be aware of the help they provided on behalf of God.  But what if we were to set the chart of our life on being available, on behalf of God, to meet the needs of those He puts in our pathway?   Serving as an angel of God, to bless another, gives great peace and joy, as nothing else can do.

God’s Question: Will you be available to serve as an angel for Me?

God’s Promise: Wherever I guide you I will provide for you.

My Prayer to God:

I praise You for this opportunity to serve as Your angel.

I am sorry I haven’t always been so available to You.

Thank You for helping me understand this concept.

Help me eagerly make myself available to serve others.

An Angel Opens the Door

God’s Word: Acts 5:12-42

God’s Message to me: (My interpretation of what God is saying in these verses)

What doors in your life are closed and locked?  barred doorAre there hopes and dreams you have had that seem impossible to ever reach?  That is what Jesus Apostles thought when Jesus was crucified.  Their hopes and dreams were dashed—doors closed and locked.  But I specialize in the impossible.  Jesus was raised from the dead, seen by over 500 people, and returned to heaven.  Once the Apostles caught on to what was happening, they were energized with power anew to spread the word.  But the Jewish leaders were furious.  They thought they had silenced Jesus by hanging Him on a cross.

The Jews arrested the Apostles and put them in jail.  Another locked door—shattered dream.  But during the night, I sent an angel to open the jailhouse door.  The angel gave them this message, “Go back to the Temple and take your stand.  Tell the people everything there is to say about this LIFE.”  Fearless, they did as they were told.  Again, they were arrested and brought before the High Council of Jews.  Instead of cowering they spoke boldly and shared the message of Jesus.

Instead of killing the Apostles they gave them a thorough whipping and warned them not to speak about Jesus.  As the Apostles left that place they were overjoyed because they had been given the honor of being dishonored on account of the Name of Jesus.  Every day they continued teaching in the Temple and homes, teaching and preaching Christ Jesus, not letting up for a minute.  The Apostles had discovered a dimension to life that few catch onto.  Life isn’t all about freedom and comfort but about putting your life on the line for My Kingdom.  As you step out in faith, on My behalf, My angels go with you and lead your efforts.  They specialize in opening closed doors of opportunity

God’s Question: Will you step out in faith on My behalf?

God’s Promise: I specialize in opening closed and locked doors.

My Prayer to God:

I Praise You for being actively involved in my life.

I am Sorry I get too involved in self and ignore others needs.

Thank You for reminders in Your Word to be about Your work.

Please Help Me look at my life from Your vantage point.

A God of Second Chances

God’s Word: Matthew 28: 1-15

God’s Message to me: (My interpretation of what God is saying in these verses)

Have you ever been so afraid that you froze in your tracks?  PENTAX ImageThat is the fear the guards at Jesus’ tomb had. Some faithful women were there, keeping vigil.  Suddenly the earth reeled and rocked under their feet as My angel, came down from heaven, came right up to where they were standing.  He rolled back the stone and sat on it.  Shafts of lights blazed from him.  His garments shimmered snow-white.  The guards were scared to death, so frightened, they froze in their tracks.

The angel spoke to the women, not the guards.  He invited them to take a look in the tomb.  Jesus was not there and He did not come out when the stone was rolled away.  They knew no one else had been there to steal Jesus body.  They had been on guard 24 hours a day.  The angel sent the women on their way to spread this good news to Jesus’ other friends.  The guards did not have to be sent on their way, they high-tailed it and some of them went into the city and reported to the high priests everything they had witnessed.

My chosen people rejected the Messiah I sent to redeem them.  They nailed him to the cross but I gave them a second chance to accept that Christ was indeed the One I sent.  When the guards reported that they had witnessed, the high priests could have said “then this indeed was the Messiah, sent from God.”  But no, they give the guards a large sum of money to lie, saying Jesus disciples came during the night and stole him away.  Their selfishness turned the tide of history and to this day the Jewish people still reject Christ as Messiah.  Now I am sending you to offer them a second chance to accept the good news of Christ.

God’s Question: Do you let money lure you away from My truth?

God’s Promise: The offer of a second chance never closes.
