The Price of Love

17 Mar

ScriptureMark 15:1-25

God’s Message to me: (What God is saying to us through these verses)jesus on cross

Can you imagine the emotional pain Jesus endured when the very people He came to rescue were the ones who were now demanding his crucifixion?  It goes to show you that when you make your mind up against someone, reason flies out the window.  You see it today in your political theater.  Each side tries to crucify the other!  A key factor here is that Jesus endured—because of his love for his very accusers and every person conceived on planet earth.

  • Adoration: The pain Jesus endured, on so many levels, humbles us.
  • Confession: We certainly seem unable to endure pain to benefit others.
  • Thanksgiving: Thank You for this example of endurance for a higher cause.
  • Supplication: Help us to allow Your love to so permeate our being that we can endure, and love, those who may attack us, as Your follower.

Working the crowd is nothing new and will be going on as long as earth exists.  Strong personalities, with much to gain, push their agenda by working up others against their opponent.  Lies become rampant just as they were in this passage about Jesus’ accusers.  People want to belong to the winning team, so they fight harder to be king of the mountain.  Truth is no longer the issue, winning is.  But Jesus turned this instance of them winning into a win for everyone. That is your challenge to follow His example throughout your life.

  • Adoration: We love how You teach us throughout Your Word in so many ways.
  • Confession: We too want to be on the winning team—but must follow truth.
  • Thanksgiving: Thank You for this reminder to not contaminate Your truth.
  • Supplication: Help us to hold Your banner of truth so others will be drawn to Your team that wins for all eternity.

Where were Jesus’ followers as He was carrying the cross?  Why weren’t they right there and willing to carry the cross for Jesus?  Peter had even stated that he was willing to die with Jesus—but, where was he?  Everyone had fled!   What about you?  Are you willing to carry the cross?  Will you take on Jesus mission to love the world and bless the world—no matter what it costs?  What are your passions, your interests, your skills?  I gifted you with those things to bless your life so that you can bless others lives by using your whole being to be My messenger.

  • Adoration: All that Jesus endured—He did for others. We are humbled!
  • Confession: We don’t always think about our gifts as given to bless others.
  • Thanksgiving: Thank You that Jesus was willing to bear the cross—for us.
  • Supplication: Help us to always be on the lookout for others who need some help carrying the crosses of their lives.

God’s Question for me:  Can I count on you to follow Jesus’ example of loving, whatever the cost?

God’s Promise to meWhen you call, I will answer, and give you strength to live your life unselfishly to be a blessing to others, on My behalf.

Forgiveness–Key to Eternal Life

16 Mar

ScriptureMark 14:54-72  (Please read this before reading below) Forgiveness

God’s Message to me: (What God is saying to me through these verses)

How do you respond to false accusations?  It’s pretty hard to keep silent when your life and/or reputation are on the line.  But Jesus kept silent!  Because He knew the accusations were false He chose to not even go there.  He knew He could easily silence them but also knew where this was going—and He was willing to make that journey.  He knew there would never be real reasons to accuse Him and He knew His death was required to serve as a sacrifice for your sins.

  • Adoration: You willingly faced a cruel death because of Your love for us. Wow!
  • Confession: We sacrifice so little for You. We are ashamed and sorry.
  • Thanksgiving: Thank You for showing us how to stand up to persecution.
  • Supplication: Help us to know when to speak up and when to keep quiet.

Jesus was persecuted and endured it valiantly!  Why are you surprised when His followers around the world are also persecuted?  Life isn’t all about avoiding persecution but standing strong no matter what comes.  Jesus knew the truth and was willing to endure whatever came to uphold that truth.  He was spit upon, blindfolded, hit, punched, slapped, and took it—for your sake.  And remember what He said upon the cross?  “Father, forgive them, they don’t realize what they are doing!”

  • Adoration: Jesus is our Knight in shining armor!
  • Confession: Instead of standing up for You we refuse to let our light shine.
  • Thanksgiving: Thank you for doing Your best to show us how to take persecution.
  • Supplication: Help us to not worry about what they can do to our physical body but to stand strong for Your truth.

Peter, who thought he could take anything to remain true to Jesus, failed miserably.  Jesus knew from the beginning that Peter would deny Him.  That didn’t change His attitude toward Peter.  He knows your failings, past and future and still loves you and is eager to forgive. His example of forgiving is to demonstrate to you how important it is to forgive all others.  We cannot expect from Jesus what we are unwilling to give others.

  • Adoration: We are humbled at Jesus’ willingness to suffer for and forgive us.
  • Confession: How we fail at being willing to suffer for and then forgive others.
  • Thanksgiving: Thank You for this motivation to want to live like Jesus lived.
  • Supplication: Help us to be so willing to forgive that we refuse to take offense.

God’s Question for me: How are you doing following Jesus example in suffering and forgiving?

God’s Promise to me:  Nothing can ever separate You from My love.

Renewing My Resolve

15 Mar

ScriptureMark 14:27-53  Please click on this scripture link and read first!Jesus praying

God’s Message to me: (What God is saying to me through these verses)

How are you doing in your resolve to be a faithful follower of Jesus?  Because you are human I understand that you are incapable of living a perfectly obedient life.  Even those closest to Jesus, when He was in the flesh, weakened in their resolve.  What I am looking for are those who will not give up, but once they recognize their weakness, will return with a new and fervent resolve to keep on keeping on following Jesus example.  I hope I can count on you!

  • We praise You for understand our weaknesses and not giving up on us.
  • We are sorry that we can be so fervent at one moment and wishy-washy the next.
  • Thank You for Your patience and willingness to be patient with us.
  • Help us to daily renew our resolve to faithfully follow Jesus example.

Jesus calls you to keep watch with Him in prayer.  Even those closest to Him could not stay awake while He prayed.  You are not the only one who has fallen asleep during prayer.  Perhaps you need to follow Jesus example—He didn’t lay down in bed to pray before He went to sleep for the night—He fell on His face in submissive prayer.  I’m certainly not saying that is how you must pray but perhaps you need to find a way that helps you focus.  Kneeling by your bed would help.  Your knees would remind you why you are there, and that position is a submissive one to kneel before Me.  Find what works for you so you aren’t falling asleep but are alert and in tune with Me.

  • We praise You for Jesus example in prayer and forgiveness of our failings.
  • We are sorry that we don’t give focused prayer enough attention.
  • Thank You for hearing our prayers, whatever position we choose.
  • Help us devote ourselves to drawing close to You through focused prayer.

Have you ever betrayed Jesus?  Remember that Jesus takes your treatment of others personally.  To betray another person is to betray Jesus.  I know you would never purposely do this to anyone but there are many different ways to betray.  Perhaps you tell someone you will pray for them, and then forget all about it. You agree to meet someone at a certain time and don’t keep your word.  You volunteer for a task and then don’t follow through.  Jesus calls you to keep your work and be a faithful friend to all others.  Be available to others who have needs you can meet.  Don’t withhold what is in your power to share with another.

  • We praise You God for this reminder that whatever we wish we could do for You we can do for another—as though it were You.
  • We are sorry for our failures in betraying others by our thoughtlessness.
  • Thank You for bearing with us and we willing to help us and not give up on us.
  • Help us to be people of our word and seek to honor You by all we say and do.

God’s Question for me: What difference will it make in your life that you have read this passage today and learned how you can renew your resolve?

God’s Promise to me: “I will never leave nor forsake you.”  You can count on my help in your weakest moments of life.

God’s Word: Psalms 119:145-152forever

God’s Attribute: God’s Words last forever

God’s Message to me:

My Words, written hundreds of years ago, are relevant to every generation, and will remain throughout all of time and eternity.  In all the changing that happens in your life this one thing will remain constant—you can always depend upon My Word to reveal to you My best for your life.

Therefore, in all the pain and struggles you go through in life, My Word communicates My love for you.  Call out to Me and be willing to accept My guidance from My Word.  When you lie awake in the night turn to Me in prayers of gratitude and watch your attitude change.  You are alive today because you are valuable to Me.

Many have chosen the path of turning farther and farther from the truths of My Word.  They are hard on you because your faithfulness to Me gives them guilt and they hate guilt.  They have succumbed to the lure of Satan and his bottom line is to destroy faith in My people.  He knows that My Words last forever but he wants to convince mankind to turn from My Word and follow his evil ways.

God’s Question for me

Will you turn to My Word for a jump-start out of the downward spiral of your life?

God’s Promise to meIsaiah 55:11
. . .The words that come out of my mouth
not come back empty-handed.
They’ll do the work I sent them to do,
they’ll complete the assignment I gave them.

My Prayer to Emulate God’s Attributes:  I Pledge:

My mind: To let Your Word guide my words and deeds.

My voice:  To filter my every word through Your cleansing Word.

My heart:  To let Your love flow through me to all others.

My body:  To submit myself to serve You in all I do.

Let the Light Shine

13 Nov

God’s WordPsalms 119:129-136

God’s Attribute: God’s light shines out from His Word. Light

God’s Message to me:

As you read My Word, My Spirit interacts with your spirit, imparting My light of understanding and meaning.  And this can happen every time you open my Word.  I am eager to shed My light into your life.  Those who say they don’t read the Bible because they don’t understand it or because they have read it in the past—simply don’t get it.  I will speak to you anew each and every time to open My Word.  You will be saying “I have read this verse many times and it never said what it is saying today.”  That is My Spirit speaking directly to your heart.

My Word speaks to both the slow of understanding and the most intelligent of people.  That is because it is far more than words printed in a book.  My Word is living and through it I will steady your steps and not let anything get the better of you.  Through My Word you will escape from the grip of bad men and women so you can live victorious.

My Word teaches you the path of life where you can blossom and grow and be all that you can be.  How sad it is when mankind ignores My Words of love and search after other “spirit beings.”  I need you to testify of the values and benefits of turning to My Word often—for there you come face to face—with Me.

God’s Question for me

Will you invite My interaction with you as you regularly “feed” on My Word and let Me enlighten and bless your life?

God’s Promise to me

My Word is given to bless and prosper you and not to hinder you.

My Prayer to Emulate God’s Attributes:  I Pledge:

My mind: I recommit my devotion to Your Word and letting You speak to me anew every day.

My voice:  May I be a living testimony of the impact of Your Word on my life.

My heart: May my heart beat in tune with Yours and pursue the things of life that outlast life.

My body: I want to devote my life’s time and energy to pursuing the things You are calling me to follow

Struggles that Strengthen

14 Sep

God’s WordPsalms 119:121-128ducks struggling

God’s Attribute: Teaches us through the textbook of life!

God’s Message to me:

Is your life going as you would like it to go?  Did any student love everything about school and their studies?  It has been said, “no pain, no gain.”  As in school, so in life—the struggles make you strong and able to help others who go through the same struggles.  I give you comfort in times of trial so that you can share that comfort with others in their time of need.

My instructions for life are embedded into the very fabric of your life.  As you weave My Word into your life—you strengthen the fabric of your life.  The strength of your fabric dictates the strength of your resolve to keep on keeping on—whatever the odds.  Yes, whatever the odds, for I am with you.

As My Word is woven into your life I am there with you.  I become your strength to go through the trials and discouragements and always—I give a silver lining to every cloud.  Make it your aim to search for the silver lining instead of focusing on the dark clouds of gloom that seem to surround you.

God’s Question for me

Will you choose to look for the silver lining instead of begrudging the darkness?

God’s Promise to me:

When My Word enters your life, it brings with it strength to face all your tomorrows in victory.

My Prayer to Emulate God’s Attributes:  I Pledge:

My mind: To look for the silver lining instead of the shadow.

My voice: To speak positive energy into every situation.

My heart:  To allow Your love to flow through my life into others.

My body:  To serve others as unto You.
