Changing Brain Chemistry

Sterling Principle # 23

Proverbs 24:8-9Tv-Addicted-Children

The person who’s always cooking up some evil soon gets a reputation as prince of rogues.  Fools incubate sin; cynics desecrate beauty.

Our brain is the oven of the body.  What’s cookin’ there is carried out through the words and deeds of our lives.  Just as our body needs healthy foods and exercise to remain healthy, our brain needs healthy input to avoid the pursuit of evil deeds and words.

Our brains abilities are beyond comprehension.  It is the world’s most amazing file cabinet. Every thought we have is filed away systematically.  The brain doesn’t know the difference between reality and imagination.  It files all “thoughts.” Depressed and anxious individuals always imagine negative experiences – and the brain changes chemistry because it thinks that experience happened. Therefore, our behavior, diet, activities and thoughts change our brains chemistry negatively or positively.

We manipulate our brain chemistry every day whether we realize it or not. TV and the internet are powerful brainwashing devices. If we could examine every incarcerated person we would find a huge percent spent a significant amount of time from childhood on watching violent TV shows.  Interesting that in prisons there are few TV’s and they are monitored to only sports or educational channels.  The Bible, written by the creator of our brains, tells us how to monitor our brain chemistry by only allowing thoughts to enter of things good, pure, and holy.  Healthy thoughts—productive lives.

God’s Question: What thoughts do you invite into your brain?

God’s Promise: Your thoughts spout wings and fly.

My Prayer to God:

I praise You for Your Word the antidote to evil thoughts.

I am sorry I don’t always think positive thoughts.

Thank You for our amazing brains You created.

Help me use my brain responsibly to honor You
