Make the World a Better Place

Sterling Principle # 22

Proverbs 24:7Common-Sense

Wise conversation is way over the head of fools; in a serious discussion they haven’t a clue.

Ever had a job interview?  We usually “dress for success” and practice all our best manners for the big day.  That’s all important, but the employer is looking for someone with common sense and the words that come out of our mouths determine his decision. If common sense was more common our world would be a better place.

Just what is common sense?  One writer said it is the mental ability to cope with the challenges and opportunities of life. Lack of common sense causes us to make errors in judgment that most reasonable people would never make.  That is why many job interviews ask questions to see what kind on judgment we have. We may have a world of “education” but not be able to function with common sense in everyday decisions.

Can our common sense be improved?  Its foundation is based upon our life experiences, our parents and others example, and our accumulated knowledge.  It is strongly influenced by the moral compass we’re raised with and choose to live by.  These 30 sterling principles from Proverbs are training in common sense living.  God, our creator and sustainer, gifted us with the Bible to be our guide for successful living in society.  Familiarity with the Bible is training in wisdom with which common sense flourishes.

God’s Question: Do you need a little help in common sense?

God’s Promise: My Words give wisdom for life.

My Prayer to God:

I praise You for Your wisdom that so blesses my life.

I am sorry I too often ignore Your wisdom and act foolish.

Thank You for responding to my requests for wisdom.

Help me so live that others will see You in my life-choices.
