Exodus 29: Instructions for the consecration of the Priests of God
Lessons for Living Today:
The meaning of holy is “set apart” to be devoted to God and His purposes. God is holy and our interactions with Him are to be holy and not treated in a trivial manner. Even his name is holy and should never be used in a flippant manner. I cringe when I hear someone curse using God’s name. So many today use “Oh God!” as an exclamation. That is taking that which is holy and desecrating it. To trivialize our interactions with God is to walk on thin ice. Bible scribes, who wrote the Bible by hand, would wash themselves before they would even write the name God.
Jesus Christ was God’s holy ambassador to our earth to provide us with salvation and knit our hearts to the holy heart of God. Many have spurned his sacrifice and desecrate His holiness in countless ways. Even we who claim to be His followers do this often. We do it when we fail to live by His standards of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, self-control, faithfulness, gentleness and humility. These are the virtues that hold a society together in unity. When these virtues are ignored society agonizes.
As God’s very creation it only makes sense that He knows what is best for us. Even Adam and Eve, His first people, ignored his directions and death and disobedience entered our world. Yet still He offers us each the opportunity to turn back to Him and be holy as he is holy. Holiness comes as we choose to accept Christ and set ourselves apart to please God for when we please God our lives make sense and we receive His peace and joy whatever our circumstances. It is not that we live perfect but He sees us as perfect in His sight. That is forgiveness—to be set right with God.
God’s Question: Will you choose to step up to my holiness?
God’s Promise: I draw near to those who draw near to Me.
My Prayer to God:
I praise You for calling me to Your holiness.
I am sorry I too often make choices such as Adam and Eve.
Thank You for Your kind forgiveness to me.
Help me be kind and forgiving to all others in my life.
