The Great Cover-Up

1 Jan

Focus on God’s Word:   Genesis 3:7 Immediately the two of them did “see what was going on”—saw themselves naked! They sewed fig leaves together as makeshift clothes for themselves.

God Speaks through His Word:

No one had to teach Adam and Eve how to sew.  Adam and EveIt happened naturally out of desperation. That is now it is with sin.  We feel compelled to “cover-up.”  Because we were given the “nature” of God—we recognize sin.  And recognizing it begins a process of how to deal with it.  Some try to ignore it; others seek to cover it up by making it legal.  No matter how we try to cover-up, there is no hiding from God.  He knows and will call us to account.

God has given us governments to help a society to keep order.  But who has the right to say what is “right” or “wrong?”  Shouldn’t that right be given to the One who created this world and all life know best how to keep order?  Many societies have cut God out of the picture and set themselves up as “gods,” determining what is right and wrong from their own selfish notions.  If it is “legal” it must be “right” they say.

God knew that we would always need a “cover-up.”  He saw right through the fig leaf cover-up and every other cover-up humanity has invented.  He knew we were made of dirt and that we would not be able to resist the constant lure of sin.  So He gifted us with His own “covering” for our tendency to sin—the Lord Jesus Christ.  He came in the flesh to experience the confines of humanity yet remained pure—then died sacrificially to gift us with forgiveness—the only “cover-up” that God can’t see through.

God’s Question: Have you accepted Jesus’ cover-up for sin?

God’s Promise: Through Jesus it is just as though you never sinned.

My Prayer to God:

I praise You for Jesus’ willingness to die for me.

I am sorry I am not more forgiving of others.

Thank You for Your Word that enlightens us to sin.

Help me be Your ambassador of life to my world.
