Whiffs of Gossip

God’s Word 2 Corinthians 12: 11-21  (The Message)

God’s Message to me: (My interpretation of what God is saying in these verses)

It only takes a spark to get a fire going. gossip The same spark can either destroy a forest or cook a meal.  As you must use sparks wisely and carefully, so should you guard the words that come from your mouth.  There will always be those who are looking to find fault and then pass it on.  Why is this?  Usually it is jealousy or merely a difference of opinion that sparks this destroying fire of gossip.  Once the fire starts, it quickly grows out of control, destroying lives in the wake.

Gossip has become the national pastime.  What begins as a flippant comment soon takes on a life of its own so that the one who first made the comment is aghast as how it grows.  The news media has this gossip propaganda down to a fine science.  They choose who they wish to destroy or elevate and plan their words carefully to do just that.  And those who listen pass on their own version of what they heard—and the story grows from there.

If you must partake in gossip, let me give you some pointers.  Live your life in open and humble honesty.  Think about only those things that are good, pure and holy.  Look for the good in others and pass it on.  Wherever you go, leave a trail of kindness and good words.  Refuse to pass on whiffs of gossip but let it stop with you.  When you listen to the gossip mongers in the news media or your own circle of friends it engages your emotions and soon you too are passing it on.  Why must I repeatedly remind you that I take your treatment of all others personally?  Yes, even when you pass on gossip it is though you were bad-mouthing Me.  Your words encourage or destroy.  Choose wisely!

God’s Question: Will you extinguish the sparks of gossip?

God’s Promise: As you treat others you invite Me to treat you.

My Prayer to God:

I Praise You for the beauty of living in Your realm.

I am Sorry I have passed on whiffs of gossip.

Thank You for this reminder and my new resolve.

Please Help Me look for the good in others.
