God’s Word: 2 Corinthians 5:1-14 (The Message)
God’s Message to me: (My interpretation of what God is saying in these verses)
I’ve noticed this about humanity. Nearly everyone is in pursuit of the good life here and now. More and better, more and better, there seems to be little satisfaction. Better car, better house, better job, better spouse—all in the search for fulfillment. But they find it is illusive. Happiness can be found where you are right now! If you can’t be happy with what you have you won’t be happy with the more you are seeking. True contentment with what you have and who you are is found in the knowledge that this world is not your home, you are just passing through. “Movin’ on up” won’t help one bit.
What is the focus of your life? Jesus came to show you the way to focus on the eternal instead of the physical. Physical is so temporary and is only a heartbeat away from ending. Eternal is your forever home—no more need for “movin’ on up.” Compared to heaven your living conditions (however elegant you have provided) are like a stopover in a rundown shack. Heaven is My gift to you and I whet your appetite for it as I interact with you through My Word. But unless you focus on My Word you may miss it.
Therefore, be of good cheer, whatever your living conditions. Let what you are trusting in—heaven—keep you going through the ruts in the roads and the rocks in the path of living on earth. Keep the main thing the main thing—cheerfully living to please God—not self. There is no satisfaction in pleasing self but there is over-joyous satisfaction in living to please Me. Keep vigilant and hold the “movin’ on up” syndrome at bay by busying yourself with serving others and let your words and deeds point heavenward for all to see.
God’s Question: How ready are you for “movin on up” to heaven?
God’s Promise: It will be worth it all when you see Jesus.
My Prayer to God:
I Praise You for Your loving concern for humanity.
I am Sorry I don’t always live out Your concern.
Thank You for reminding me of the MAIN thing.
Please Help Me live for You by serving others.
