Junkyard of Idols

God’s Word: Acts 17:16-34

God’s Message to me: (My interpretation of what God is saying in these verses)

The world is cluttered with a myriad of idols.dalmations They have filled homes to overflowing and the business of storage units is making a mint by storing idols.  Idol collection starts out innocent enough, just wanting to decorate up your place a bit.  But, as your prosperity increases, you’re decorating gets out of hand.  A few knick-knacks turn into a shrine.  Your focus becomes maintaining your shrines instead of being a blessing to other people.  Humanitarian deeds go undone because of entanglement with personal idols.

Idols come in all sizes and shapes.  There is no point of saturation or contentment when it comes to idols.  They can be anything you regard with admiration, adoration, or devotion.  Idols are passed down from one generation to the next.  At some point they become like a noose around your neck.  Some buy bigger and better houses to display their idols better. And once that is full they rent storage units. If you don’t watch out you become a slave to your idols.  Shopping malls have become evangelists for idol worship.  They draw in the crowds to buy things they don’t need and can’t afford, but can’t resist.

The Bible will guide you to complete contentment.  Your life does not consist in the amount of idols that are on display.  You are what is important to the world.  An open heart and an open home have nothing to do with the appearance of your home.  It has everything to do with your love and concern for the well-being of others. You are My ambassador of love to humanity—regardless of your living conditions.  Don’t let your possessions become a junkyard of idols or you will find yourself entrapped by them.

God’s Question: What is the focus of your life?

God’s Promise: Whatever you do for others is done for Me.

My Prayer to God:

I Praise You for this reminder to focus on others.

I am Sorry  I too get entrapped by possessions.

Thank You for Jesus’ example of living for others.

Please Help Me focus on serving instead of collecting.
