God’s Word: Luke 17:1-19
God’s Message to me: (My interpretation of what God is saying in these verses)
Forgiveness means erasing the debt. Christ’ death erased the debt you could not pay for your sin. He took upon Himself what he didn’t deserve so that you could receive what you don’t deserve—forgiveness. He was not just another righteous prophet—He and I share a common heart. Other so-called prophets have come along, claiming to be god but there is only one God. None of these so-called prophets died in your place did they? Or were they resurrected from the dead? Could they walk on water? Stop the storms? Heal the sick? Raise the dead? Line them all up side by side and compare their qualifications.
Power, used to benefit others, rather than self is what Jesus displayed. Were any of His miracles done to draw attention to Himself? After many of them he told those he healed to not tell anyone. The power was for the benefit of others—not Himself. No, He didn’t heal everyone—nor do I. Disease, sickness and death are all part of life. In heaven, everyone will be free of death and all the trials of life. Living life is the pathway to heaven—the training ground. Christ lived and died to set you an example for living. Life is all about forgiveness. You need My forgiveness and you need to forgive others.
Forgiveness is not based upon merit but the heart of the forgiver. Do you think it was easy for Jesus to hang on that cross until death overtook Him? What was his prayer? “Father, forgive them.” It wasn’t “Father, show them who’s boss and annihilate them.” His dying words were of forgiveness. Those who believe in Christ’s death in their place and accepted his heart of forgiveness are forgivers. You don’t deserve Christ’s forgiveness; therefore others do not need to deserve yours. Forgiveness is the true mark of Christ-followers.
God’s Question: Will you forgive others so I can forgive you?
God’s Promise: I accept your forgiveness of others personally.
My Prayer to God:
I Praise You for Christ’s willingness to die in my place.
I am Sorry I don’t do a better job of undeserved forgiveness.
Thank You for Your Word that guides us to forgiveness.
Please help me be willing to forgive whatever comes my way.
