The Power of Touch

God’s Word: Luke 8:40-56

God’s Message to me: (My interpretation of what God is saying in these verses)

Touch is the great interrupter of pain—both physical and emotional. 23 touch When a person is in stress their body increases levels of cortisol, a stress hormone that controls mood, motivation and fear.  Touch reduces levels of cortisol and calms the one in stress.  What happens when a baby cries and the mother lovingly picks it up to cuddle? It is calming and comforting.  You do not outgrow your need for touch.  But because of abuse many societies have veered away from touching it has created an isolation that has brought with it numerous physical and emotional road blocks.

In this passage Jesus touch instantly healed the sick and raised the dead.   Your touch cannot do that but it can certainly be of help to the sick and a comfort in death.  I have created the human body to respond to the touch of another.  Babies that are never cuddled often die.  Touch communicates care and without touch a person comes to believe they are  not lovable, worthless and no one cares.  High cortisol levels can destroy the immune system and kill brain cells.

Therefore, your touch can bring life and hope to one in need.  Don’t put off touch until a person is nearing death.  Keep your family, and your circle of acquaintances healthy by frequent loving touching.  Reach out to the lonely, the sick and neglected.  Your touch can bring joy, peace and health to others.  Please, I ask that you do this on My behalf.  You are my hands that reach out and touch those in need of Me.  As you do this unto others, I accept it as done to Me personally. In the touching of others, as unto Me, you too receive My touch and are blessed with lower cortisol levels.  Touch and be healed.

God’s Question: Who will you reach out and touch for Me today?

God’s Promise: Be a blessing to others and receive blessing yourself.

My Prayer to God:

I Praise You for our amazing bodies you have created.

I am Sorry I withhold touch far too often.

Thank You for knowledge about how our bodies work.

Please help me extend Your loving hands to many others.
