While You Were Sleeping

God’s Word: Mark 14:32-42

God’s Message to me: (My interpretation of what God is saying in these verses)

In a moment of dreadful agony Jesus said “I feel bad enough to die.” dog-sleeping-by-fire-m He asked those closest to him to stay with him and keep vigil while He prayed.  He prayed “Papa—Father, you can—can’t you?—get Me out of this.  Take this cup away from Me.  But please, not what I want—what do you want?”  In this moment of deep agony Jesus wanted His friends close by.  And they did stay with him. And what did they do to give Jesus comfort?  They fell asleep on the job—three different times as Jesus asked them to stand with Him.

Don’t sleep away opportunities to be a comfort to those in need!  Be available to others the same way you would want them to be available to you.  Jesus reply to them was “Stay alert, be in prayer so you don’t enter the danger zone without even knowing it.  Don’t be naïve.  Part of you is eager, ready for anything in God; but another part is as lazy as an old dog sleeping by the fire.”

How many opportunities have you missed to bless another while you were sleeping?  Not only literal sleep but simply having your mind in a different place, concerned about your own issues rather than standing by your friend in need.  I call you to be fully present in the lives of others in need.  You are My hands and feet and offer My Words of comfort.  Don’t let that chance slip away—it may never come again.  You are entering the danger zone when you ignore the dreadful agony of another.  Sometimes all a person needs is someone to stand with them.   Give up a little sleep and minister on My behalf today.

God’s Question: Will you be available to the needs of those close by?

God’s Promise: As you care for others—I will care for you.

My Prayer to God:

I Praise You for always being there and alert for me.

I am Sorry I have slept too much when others had needs.

Thank You for opportunities to serve as your hands and feet.

Please help me willingly give up personal needs to minister to others.
