Kiss of Death

God’s Word: Matthew 26:47-56

God’s Message to me: (My interpretation of what God is saying in these verses)

What would it take to buy you off? ice cream cones Judas agreed to betray Jesus for 30 pieces of silver.  Then he sealed the deal with a kiss.  A kiss that began a string of events that ended with Jesus death.  Suppose you were in Judas’ shoes.  Would you have been able to resist the silver and save the Savior?  A better question for you—what value are you placing on silver in your life? A peek at your calendar and check register tells the story plainly.  Are you spending your time and money in seeking pleasure for yourself—regardless of the needs you see around you?

Don’t let pleasure-seeking be your kiss of death.  Don’t get Me wrong—I want you to enjoy your life.  I gave you five senses to enjoy the pleasures of life.  But there is a point when a person becomes so involved with living within the “pleasure” realm that they cut off the simple pleasures found in relationship with Jesus.  I gifted humanity with a spiritual base that finds great pleasure in seeking the good of others—which is honoring to Me.  That spiritual base receives nourishment and direction from My Word.  To ignore My Word is like “cutting off your nose to spite your face.”

Overindulge in food and you pay the price with your health.  Overindulge in pleasure-seeking and pay the price with your spirit.  To overindulge in any area has dire consequences.  Judas overindulged his desire for money and ended up ending his own life in remorse.  Remorse is a terrible taskmaster.  Avoid it at all costs.  Jesus sacrificed His life to make up for your overindulgent life choices.  He satisfies completely—whereas there is no saturation point in pleasure seeking.

God’s Question: Will you let Jesus free you from your remorse?

God’s Promise: There is room for you in My remorse-free zone!

My Prayer to God

I praise You for the pleasures of living for Jesus.

I am sorry I too often live for my own pleasures.

Thank You for Your guiding Word of hope.

Help me live for Jesus instead of self.
