Wake Up Call!

God’s Word: Matthew 26:31-46

God’s Message to me: (My interpretation of what God is saying in these verses)

My call to you is “bear one another’s burdens.”  wake up call I recognize that each person is so all-consumed with their own needs that they are often unable to offer help to another.  Jesus found that out when he was in His deepest need of companionship—right before his crucifixion.  He took his disciples with him to the Garden of Gethsemane to pray for strength for what was coming.  He said to them “this sorrow is crushing my life out.  Stay here and keep vigil with me.”  And what did they do?  They fell asleep.

There are those all around you who have deep burdens to bear.  They need someone to “keep vigil with them.”  Are you just like Jesus’ disciples—sleeping on the job?  As you depend upon me to “stay close by and keep vigil” with you I am depending upon you to do that for others.  As a matter of fact, to the extent that you keep vigil with others in their times of deep need—I will be available in your times of need.

In your times of deep need follow Jesus example for prayer. He admitted his reluctance to face what was ahead but left the outcome with Me.  He said “I’m ready—do it Your way.”  If you would follow that example you will find comfort and peace just as Jesus did.  Hand Me your fears and accept what is coming with resolve.  Don’t give into your fears—take My hand and we will go through the deep waters together.  Your friends may “sleep through your pain” but I am with you.  Now go—keep vigil with others in their times of deep need.

God’s Question: Will you wake up and be there for others?

God’s Promise: As you are there for others, I will be there for you.

My Prayer to God

I praise You for your abiding presence in times of need.

I am sorry for ignoring the deep needs of others.

Thank You for this urging to be there for others.

Help me seek out those who need comfort.
