Achieve Your Goals

God’s Word: Matthew 20:17-34

God’s Message to me: (My interpretation of what God is saying in these verses)

What do you strive for in life?  goalsMoney, honor, glory, attention, fulfillment, recognition, satisfaction, prestige, safety, contentment, peace, joy, are some of numerous requests.  Most people set out to achieve their goals in the wrong way.  They set their sights on some lofty goal and then climb all over other people to elevate self.  Seldom do they ever achieve the satisfaction they desire.  Why?  Because climbing to the top requires service to the lowly.

Most people expect the lowly to serve them on their way to the top.  That is not the way true greatness works.  Whoever desires greatness, honor, glory, etc. will achieve that and more if they devote their energies to helping others achieve their goals.  The blind men called out to Jesus for help.  He asked them what their goal was and they responded they wanted to see.  He reached out to them with a healing touch and restored their sight.  This kind deed elevated Him in their sight.  He gave Himself in service to the lowly.

My Word, the Bible, is filled with stories of the lives of people.  Those who achieved true greatness, fulfillment, recognition, satisfaction and joy are those who genuinely reached out to others instead of using others to achieve their own goals.  Jesus came to earth to set the perfect example of how to achieve complete satisfaction in this life—elevating others instead of elevating self.  You will find far more satisfaction in helping others than in forcing others to help you.  And when this life is over you will be welcomed into my heavenly kingdom with open arms.  That is the ultimate goal of achievement.

God’s Question: Who will you serve even today?

God’s Promise: The path to greatness is lined with service.

My Prayer to God

I praise You for Jesus acts of service on our behalf.

I am sorry I do not perform more selfless acts of service.

Thank You for the reminders in Your Word to serve others.

Help me set self aside and live to serve You through others.
