The Great Reversal

God’s Word: Matthew 19: 13-30

God’s Message to me: (My interpretation of what God is saying in these verses)

What you keep, you lose, what you give, you keep forever! ?????????????????? Life is not all about getting and keeping for one’s own benefit.  That does not make for a happy and contented life.  True happiness comes to the one who gives up for the benefit of others.  Jesus set the example in laying down his very life’s blood for YOU!  He died to redeem you from eternal death and offers you eternal life.

In the same manner—when you sacrifice self on behalf of another—I accept that as done unto Me.  The greatest pleasure in life is not storing up money and goods to please yourself.  No, the greatest pleasure is in emptying your pockets to meet the needs of others.  This is the great reversal.  The thief thinks he will be happy if he can just have that which belongs to another.  But money cannot buy internal happiness.  Only self-sacrifice can provide that.

Eternal life is not something to be purchased by following a list of do’s and don’ts.  Eternal life is secured by opening your heart to My love and forgiveness, demonstrated through Jesus life and death, and living your life to benefit others—on His behalf.  This blows in the face of what the world teaches—accumulating for self as the means to happiness.  My eternal reward will be given those who live their lives sacrificially on behalf of others in response to My love and forgiveness.

God’s Question: Who are you living to please?

God’s Promise: What you keep, you lose, what you give, you keep forever.

My Prayer to God

I praise You for the simple logic of the great reversal.

I am sorry I fail too often to live this out.

Thank You for Your Word that teaches me.

Help me live for others in order to live for You.
