What is Sacred?

God’s Word:  Matthew 7:6  Jesus said, “Don’t be flip with the sacred.  Banter and silliness give no honor to God.  Don’t reduce holy mysteries to slogans.  In trying to be relevant, you’re only being cute and inviting sacrilege.” 

Jesus’ Message to Me: (My interpretation of what Jesus is saying in these verses)

What is sacred?  SacredSacred means set apart for the service or worship of God.  I Corinthians 6:20 says that “your body is a sacred place, the place of the Holy Spirit?  Don’t you see that you can’t live however you please; squandering what God paid such a high price for? The physical part of you is not some piece of property belonging to the spiritual part of you. God owns the whole works. So let people see God in and through your body.”

Wherever God’s Spirit dwells—is Sacred. When a person comes to accept My sacrificial death as the means to forgiveness of sins and enters into a relationship with God—God’s Spirit dwells within the spirit of that person.  Your body becomes the temple of God’s Spirit and thus sacred.  When I say “Don’t be flip with the sacred,” I am talking about your body—the things you do with your body, the things you hear, think, say, do, or touch.

How does a person keep the body pure and sacred for God?  Philippians 4:8, 9 has the perfect advice—it begins with your thoughts.  “Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.  Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.” 

Jesus’ Question for Me: Do you realize that since God’s Spirit dwells within you, you must take every thought captive lest you dishonor God?  Thoughts precede actions.

Jesus’ Promise to Me:  I’ll never let you down, never walk off and leave you.

My Prayer to God

I praise You for Your Word that guides us to true happiness.

I am sorry for allowing negative thinking into my mind.

Thank you for Your sacredness that we can emulate.

Help me Give myself over into Your safe keeping.
