Follow the Birds

7 Mar

God’s Word:  Matthew 6:24 – 26    Jesus said, “You can’t worship two gods at once.  Loving one god, you’ll end up hating the other.  Adoration of one feeds contempt for the other.  You can’t worship God and Money both.  If you decide for God, living a life of God-worship, it follows that you don’t fuss about what’s on the table at mealtimes or whether the clothes in your closet are in fashion.  There is far more to your life than the food you put in your stomach, more to your outer appearance than the clothes you hang on your body.  Look at the birds, free and unfettered, not tied down to a job description, careless in the care of God.  And you count far more to him than birds.”

Jesus’ Message to Me: (My interpretation of what Jesus is saying in these verses)

Decide for yourself—to what or who do you give your allegiance? Ellen's bird - Copy My best advice is “follow the birds.” You daily choose between seeking after money or seeking after God.  These two are diametrically opposed.  God calls you to live by faith—trusting in Him (as the birds do); money lures you to invest all your energies into stockpiling.  Aren’t we, like the birds, supposed to feather our nests?

There is a fine line between using money and money using you.  It has a lure that draws mankind into accumulation, even though they claim it is for a good cause, and soon they have forgotten all about God and helping others.  Why do you desire to accumulate money?  Though many claim to have Godly motives for building their bank account, the evidence of those motives are seen in the bigger NESTS they are building.  Birds never try to enlarge their nests bigger than they need.

Your life is a gift from God that money could never purchase. The lure of money and the “things” it will buy takes the focus off of God and what He is willing and eager to provide. Seek God and please him with and don’t worry about tomorrow. Follow the example of the birds—they build their simple nests and trust God for all their tomorrows.

Jesus’ Question for Me: Has money and the pleasures it can provide lured you away from God?

Jesus’ Promise to Me: God cares for the birds those who abandon their trust to Him.

My Prayer to God

I praise You for the amazing way you provide for our needs.

I am sorry it is so easy to get lured into the trap of money.

Thank you for calling us back to you and away from money.

Help me to curb my appetite for money to buy me pleasures.
