What Really Counts?

God’s Word:  Matthew 3

God’s Message:   (My interpretation of what God is saying in these verses)

I choose My messengers based on their heart, not their outward appearance.  My messengers have a passion to touch their world and provide others with a path into My presence.  John, called the Baptizer, chose to be My messenger—to get the world ready for Jesus teaching.  He was all about showing others the smooth and straight pathway that led to the servant-heart of Jesus.  This was before Jesus had even begun teaching.

John’s teaching included baptizing after people confessed their sins and then began a changed life.  He reminded them that a life that counts is green and blossoming—not deadwood—destined only for the fire.  John’s baptism was to get the people ready for the main character to show up—Jesus—who would ignite the kingdom life, changing a person from the inside out.

Jesus showed up to be baptized to set the example of how to set things right with God.  To show My presence, I opened the skies and My presence descended and landed, like a dove, on Jesus.  I spoke “This is My Son, chosen and marked by my love, delight of My life.”  As John’s life pointed mankind to Jesus, I am still looking for those with a passion for what really counts in life.  I will be with you as you discover how you can use your own talents and interests to create a smooth and straight pathway for others to discover Jesus.

God’s Question:  Is your life all about making your own path smooth or helping others follow the path to find salvation through Jesus?

God’s Promise:  I do not promise you a smooth path through life but I do promise you My presence to give you strength, peace and joy.

My Prayer to God:

I praise You for John’s example to make my life really count.

I am sorry that I too often think only of myself and my own pleasures.

Thank You for Your abiding presence that always beckons me to You.

Help me let You cleanse me from the inside out and may it be evident to those with whom I come in contact with—that You are the Light of my life.
