Voice for the Voiceless

God’s Word:  Proverbs 31:1-9

God’s Message to Me:

Be there for those who need you.  Speak up for those who have no voice.  Don’t stand aside while their rights are being ignored.  Never forget, how you treat, or fail to treat others, I accept as done unto Me.  And just who are the voiceless—the unborn, the physically or mentally ill, or the desperately poor.  Anyone who is helpless to help themselves, I am calling you to be their voice.

Don’t turn your ear away from the cries of injustice that are taking place in your world.  You can’t do everything but you can do something!  What are your skills and interests?  Use those to reach out and help the voiceless.  I gifted you with those very skills and interests and have placed you in a position to help others.  Open your eyes and your ears to the needs around you.

Don’t spend your time and money on frivolous pleasures and mind numbing drinks.    Use wine and beer only as sedatives for the terminally ill or those in great pain.  The one who lingers over these drinks simply for pleasure is a person who has set aside my calling on their life and is ignoring the needs of the voiceless.   Wake up and make your life count by being a voice for the voiceless.

God’s Question to Me:  What is taking the bulk of your time and money?  Who is being helped through your efforts?

God’s Promise to Me:   Wherever you go, I will be with you and lead you to places where you can speak up for the voiceless.  Are you listening?

My Song to God:        Help Somebody Today          by Carrie E Breck 1904  (See info below)
Look all around you, find someone in need,
Help somebody today!
Though it be little—a neighborly deed—
Help somebody today!

Refrain:
Help somebody today,
Somebody along life’s way;
Let sorrow be ended, the friendless befriended,
Oh, help somebody today!

Many are waiting a kind, loving word,
Help somebody today!
Thou hast a message, oh, let it be heard,
Help somebody today!

Refrain:
Help somebody today,
Somebody along life’s way;
Let sorrow be ended, the friendless befriended,
Oh, help somebody today!

Many have burdens too heavy to bear,
Help somebody today!
Grief is the portion of some everywhere,
Help somebody today!

Refrain:
Help somebody today,
Somebody along life’s way;
Let sorrow be ended, the friendless befriended,
Oh, help somebody today!

Some are discouraged and weary in heart,
Help somebody today!
Someone the journey to heaven should start,
Help somebody today!

Refrain:
Help somebody today,
Somebody along life’s way;
Let sorrow be ended, the friendless befriended,
Oh, help somebody today!

Carrie Break was a devout Christian, she was devoted to her husband and five daughters. She had no sense of pitch, and could not carry a tune, but she had the gift of poetic rhythm, and wrote more than 2,000 poems. She was not particularly robust in health, and had to take frequent rests while doing chores. At such times, she would sit in her favorite rocking chair, take up a notebook, and write poetry, often with a baby on her knee, or playing at her feet.
