# 27 Attracting Envy

8 Oct

God’s Word:  Proverbs 24:15,16

God’s Message to Me:

The person who shines in what they do with their life attracts those who are envious.  Their envy causes them to want to tear down the one who shines—and get in on the glory.  Rather than making extra effort to shine themselves, they want the top honors without the effort.

Some people choose to join a gang to build up their courage.  Rather than putting forth the effort to make the world a better place, they join forces to trip up the good people.  But the good, God-loyal people will not stay down long.  Soon they’re up on their feet and the wicked end up flat on their faces.

There is no satisfaction in a life that opposes the good, God-loyal people.  You cannot keep a good man down—for I will uphold him.  When you interfere with a good person you are barking up the wrong tree—you are opposing Me.  The good person realizes that I take their treatment of all others personally, and lives accordingly.

God’s Question to Me:  Are you envious of others lives or busy using your own strengths and passions to make the world a better place?

God’s Promise to Me:   You cannot hide your motives from Me.  The God-loyal person is evidenced by the words and deeds of their life.

My Song to God:   I’d Rather Have Jesus      by Rhea F. Miller  1922

I’d rather have Jesus than silver or gold;
I’d rather be His than have riches untold;
I’d rather have Jesus than houses or lands;
I’d rather be led by His nail-pierced hand

Refrain:
Than to be the king of a vast domain
And be held in sin’s dread sway;
I’d rather have Jesus than anything
This world affords today.

I’d rather have Jesus than men’s applause;
I’d rather be faithful to His dear cause;
I’d rather have Jesus than worldwide fame;
I’d rather be true to His holy name

Refrain:
Than to be the king of a vast domain
And be held in sin’s dread sway;
I’d rather have Jesus than anything
This world affords today.

He’s fairer than lilies of rarest bloom;
He’s sweeter than honey from out the comb;
He’s all that my hungering spirit needs;
I’d rather have Jesus and let Him lead

Refrain:

Than to be the king of a vast domain
And be held in sin’s dread sway;
I’d rather have Jesus than anything
This world affords today.
