# 17 Path to Avoid

God’s Word:  Proverbs 23:26-28

God’s Message to Me:

Life is full of choices.  Your present and future happiness depends upon your daily choices.  Your choices are part of your world view.  If you think this world is all about you—you are bound to make some very foolish choices and sacrifice future happiness for immediate pleasure.  Seeking pleasure is a bottomless pit.  You will never feel satisfied.

If your world-view includes My Word that will affect all your choices.   You realize that by following My guidelines you will find your perfect happiness.  You come to understand that this world is not all about you but about how you can bless others.  You remember that I take your treatment of all others personally.

The path to avoid is chasing after self-pleasure—at any cost.  It will be the cause of your unhappiness and will destroy the happiness of those who love and care about you.  Instant gratification never satisfies—never makes you feel good about yourself.  The wise person recognizes that ahead of time and refuses to put their head in the sand.

God’s Question to Me:  Will you accept My Word and My guidance to find your true happiness in this life—and the life to come?

God’s Promise to Me:   I will give you the strength to withstand any temptation and grow stronger through it all.

My Song to God:      Mansion over the Hilltop         by Ira F Stamphill

I’m satisfied with just a cottage below
A little silver and a little gold
But in that city where the ransomed will shine
I want a gold one that’s silver lined

Refrain:

I’ve got a mansion just over the hilltop
In that bright land where we’ll never grow old
And some day yonder we’ll never more wander
But walk on streets that are purest gold

Tho’ often tempted, tormented and tested
And, like the prophet, my pillow a stone
And tho’ I find here no permanent dwelling
I know He’ll give me a mansion my own.

Refrain:

I’ve got a mansion just over the hilltop
In that bright land where we’ll never grow old
And some day yonder we’ll never more wander
But walk on streets that are purest gold

Don’t think me poor or deserted or lonely
I’m not discouraged I’m heaven bound
I’m just a pilgrim in search of the city
I want a mansion, a harp and a crown

Refrain:

I’ve got a mansion just over the hilltop
In that bright land where we’ll never grow old
And some day yonder we’ll never more wander
But walk on streets that are purest gold
