#6 Mind Your Manners

8 Sep

God’s Word:  Proverbs 23:1-3

God’s Message to Me:

Table manners are not a matter of little importance.  As the manners—so the man (or woman).  As much as you may have fought it, your mother was doing you a huge favor by teaching you manners.  What’s begun in the cradle will carry over to the saddle.  Good manners are simply courtesy for those you are eating with.  It is caring enough for the other person to bridle your behavior.

Table manners must become a habit of your early life—in order to benefit long-term.  Remember your manners at the camp table as well as the palace.  The camp table is the training ground for the palace—just as childhood is the training ground for adult life.  The child taught good manners will have many benefits in their adult years.

Good manners are even better for your health.  To gobble your food is bad for digestion.  Talking with your mouth full is apt to cause choking (to say nothing about how dreadful it looks to others).  An unbridled appetite causes overeating which leads to obesity.  Yes, your mother was simply obeying My Word when she taught you good manners.

God’s Question to Me:  Will you remember to treat every other person as though they were royalty—and mind your manners?

God’s Promise to Me:   I am your Father.  I care about every detail of your life—to help you be successful.  Manners is no small issue.

My Song to God:         Open My Eyes    by Clara Scott

Open my eyes, that I may see
Glimpses of truth Thou hast for me;
Place in my hands the wonderful key
That shall unclasp and set me free.

Refrain

Silently now I wait for Thee,
Ready my God, Thy will to see,
Open my eyes, illumine me,
Spirit divine!

Open my ears, that I may hear
Voices of truth Thou sendest clear;
And while the wave notes fall on my ear,
Everything false will disappear.

Refrain

Silently now I wait for Thee,
Ready my God, Thy will to see,
Open my eyes, illumine me,
Spirit divine!

Open my mouth, and let me bear,
Gladly the warm truth everywhere;
Open my heart and let me prepare
Love with Thy children thus to share.

Refrain

Silently now I wait for Thee,
Ready my God, Thy will to see,
Open my eyes, illumine me,
Spirit divine!
