#3 Avoid Gambling

God’s Word:  Proverbs 22:26,27

God’s Message to Me:

My greatest desire is for you to have a happy and fulfilling life—overflowing with good deeds.  Then why are so many people in the pit of despair, desperate and without hope?  Because you are trying to take shortcuts to the top.  The most dangerous of all shortcuts is the charge card and loans.

Instead of buying a used car that works fine, you want the fine and fancy new car like your friends have.  How alluring that desire is.  How easy to satisfy it.  You gamble that you will be able to make the payments—most of which is interest.

Instead of buying a home that would work well for your family, you want the large and luxurious one.  You have a good job so “why not” you ask yourself?  Again, you gamble that you will be able to make the payments and the economy will remain stable so you keep your job.

My best advice is to SAVE your money and then buy what you need. You want to teach your children restraint, then show some yourself.  They will surely follow in your footsteps.  To enter into an agreement to spend now and pay later is a huge gamble and many lives are destroyed this way.  Happiness cannot be purchased with a credit card!

God’s Question to Me:  Will you follow My advice and save your money instead of borrowing sorrow from tomorrow—by using credit?

God’s Promise to Me:  A happy and fulfilling life comes from being content with what you have—not from instant gratification.

My Song to God:        Precious Lord    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j9pSKfcGsPc

Precious Lord, take my hand
Lead me on,
Let me stand
I’m tired, I am weak I am worn
Through the storm, through the night
Lead me on to the light
Take my hand precious Lord, lead me home

When my way grows drear precious Lord linger near
When my life is almost gone
Hear my cry,
Hear my call
Hold my hand lest I fall
Take my hand precious Lord, lead me home

When the darkness appears and the night draws near
And the day is past and gone
At the river I stand
Guide my feet,
Hold my hand
Take my hand precious Lord, lead me home

Precious Lord, take my hand
Lead me on,
Let me stand
I am tired, I am weak, I am worn
Through the storm, through the night
Lead me on to the light
Take my hand precious Lord, lead me home
