Your Free Choice

God’s Word:  Proverbs 22:1-18

God’s Message to Me:

The choices you make determine your reputation.  Protecting your reputation is better than striking it rich.  A gracious spirit is better than money in the bank.  I have created mankind as a free spirit to make their own choices.  But never forget that all choices carry consequences.  My best advice is make choices that you will not regret later when the chickens come home to roost.

A prudent person sees trouble coming and ducks.  The simple one walks on blindly and is clobbered.  The perverse travel a dangerous road that is potholed and mud-slick.  If you know what is good for you will make the wise choice and avoid that road.  Self-discipline is always the wise choice.  And to help you make wise choices I have spelled it all out in My Word—the Bible.  Ignore My Word and you will find yourself a prisoner of your own poor choices.

The consequences for honest and upright choices is plenty, honor and a satisfying life.   Train your children early on by pointing them in the right direction and when they are old they will have wisdom to guide them.  Give them a good example by not borrowing against tomorrow’s income to satisfy today’s desires.  If you instill this knowledge in your children you will save them from a lifetime of poor choices.

God’s Question to Me:  You are free to make your own choices but will you think your choices through to the ultimate consequences before you stick your neck out foolishly?

God’s Promise to Me:  I will bless the hands of those who reach out to help those who are unable to help themselves.  Exploit the poor or glad-hand the rich—whichever, you’ll end up the poorer for it.

My Song to God:               Take Time to be Holy      William D Longstaff   1882

Take time to be holy, speak oft with thy Lord;
Abide in Him always, and feed on His Word.
Make friends of God’s children, help those who are weak,
Forgetting in nothing His blessing to seek.

Take time to be holy, the world rushes on;
Spend much time in secret, with Jesus alone.
By looking to Jesus, like Him thou shalt be;
Thy friends in thy conduct His likeness shall see.

Take time to be holy, let Him be thy Guide;
And run not before Him, whatever betide.
In joy or in sorrow, still follow the Lord,
And, looking to Jesus, still trust in His Word.

Take time to be holy, be calm in thy soul,
Each thought and each motive beneath His control.
Thus led by His Spirit to fountains of love,
Thou soon shalt be fitted for service above.
