Healing Words

God’s Word:  Proverbs 15:1-11

God’s Message to Me:

A gentle response defuses anger but harsh words escalate it.  Don’t let your feelings fuel your anger—instead put the reins to your rage.  You never know what kind of battle the other person is facing.  You may feel they deserve your angry words—but don’t let your feelings control you.  Always assume the best of another person—even if you see no evidence of it.  Assuming the best will bring it out of them.

Make a contract with your mouth that only healing words will be uttered.  Actually, the contract is really with your heart that filters through your mind.  Think only positive thoughts of others.  Temper all your words with loving concern for the well-being of the other—all others—even the one who has just laid on their horn when the light turned green and you were preoccupied.

Your words heal or maim.  You know how healing words you receive spurs you on to do your best—to go over the top with your efforts.  Choose to be a giver of healing words—and let it begin right in your home.  Look for the good in all others—expect the best from them—and then broadcast their good qualities for others to hear.  You not only encourage this person but all who hear it are encouraged to give more effort also.

God’s Question to Me:  Who will be blest by the words you speak today?

God’s Promise to Me:  The healing words you give others bounce back and heal your own hurts.

My Song to God:   Wonderful Words of Life   by Philip P. Bliss  1874

Sing them over again to me,
Wonderful words of life,
Let me more of their beauty see,
Wonderful words of life;
Words of life and beauty
Teach me faith and duty.

Refrain:
Beautiful words, wonderful words,
Wonderful words of life;
Beautiful words, wonderful words,
Wonderful words of life.

Christ, the blessed One, gives to all
Wonderful words of life;
Sinner, list to the loving call,
Wonderful words of life;
All so freely given,
Wooing us to heaven.

Refrain: Beautiful words, wonderful words, Wonderful words of life; Beautiful words, wonderful words, Wonderful words of life.

Sweetly echo the Gospel call,
Wonderful words of life;
Offer pardon and peace to all,
Wonderful words of life;
Jesus, only Savior,
Sanctify us forever.

Refrain: Beautiful words, wonderful words, Wonderful words of life; Beautiful words, wonderful words, Wonderful words of life.
