Watch Your Heart

God’s Word:  Proverbs 4:23-27

God’s Message to Me:

Keep vigilant watch over your heart—that’s where life starts.  Physical life depends upon the beating heart and spiritual life depends upon keeping your heart pure.  (Luke 6:45 says “A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.”)  Your heart is evidenced by the words you speak.

Your heart is “fed” through the senses.  What you feed it—it will become like.  In the same way, your body develops depending upon what you feed it. Choose good foods in order to keep your body healthy.  So too, choose carefully those things which you allow into your heart.  Your very essence depends upon what you feed your heart.

Therefore, focus your senses on that which is good, pure and holy—found in My Word.  It will keep your heart and body healthy—the essence of you.  Ignore the choices that distract you from protecting your heart and body.  Watch that you don’t let your unchecked desires direct your life.  I’ve given My Word to help guide and guard your path of life.  Read and heed!

God’s Question to Me:  How are you caring for My gift to you of a beating heart?  You are a steward of this gift!

God’s Promise to Me:  I give you freedom to make choices but that doesn’t mean any choice is as good as another.  Every positive choice has a negative that calls out to you.  Choose wisely—watch your heart—it is on loan to you and will be returned to Me one day.

My Song to God:   How About Your Heart?

Friend, how would you feel if your heart were made
With a window on each side?
So that all could see, not just outward charm,
But detect if inward harm?

Chorus:
People often see you as you are outside;
Jesus really knows you, for He sees deep down inside;
How about your heart, Is it right with God?
That’s the thing that counts today.

How about your heart? Is it right with God
That’s the thing that counts today:
Is it black by sin, is it pure within,
Could you ask Christ in to stay?

Chorus:
People often see you as you are outside;
Jesus really knows you, for He sees deep down inside;
How about your heart, Is it right with God?
That’s the thing that counts today.
