It Takes Practice

God’s Word:  I John 2:18-29

God’s Message to Me: (My interpretation of what God is saying to me through these verses)

How does a person become a thief?  It takes practice.  It begins with taking small things that no one would notice.  The natural progression is to move on up to larger things.  At first it bothers your conscience but soon you find your conscience no longer bothers you and you find delight in getting something for nothing.  A thief is a very selfish person and cares not that he is in direct violation of My Word.

How does a person become a liar?  It takes practice. You start quite innocently telling little untruths to keep you out of trouble.  You tell your conscience that it was partly true and on and on you go down that path until you don’t know yourself what is truth and what is a lie.  A liar is a very selfish person and cares not that he is in direct violation of My Word.

How does a person become self-less?  It takes practice.  The “high” you received when you stole without getting caught, or the lie you told without anyone knowing—that same “high” is available to the self-less person by doing good for others.  The more you do good the better you get at it—the same as stealing or telling lies.  Only this time your conscience cheers you on and affirms your actions.  This “HIGH” cannot really be compared to the thief or liars “high.”

God’s Question for Me: Are there some new “practices” you need to introduce into your life?

God’s Promise to Me: All who practice righteousness are God’s true children.

My Song to God:

Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me….
I once was lost but now am found,
Was blind, but now, I see.

T’was Grace that taught…
my heart to fear.
And Grace, my fears relieved.
How precious did that Grace appear…
the hour I first believed.

Through many dangers, toils and snares…
we have already come.
T’was Grace that brought us safe thus far…
and Grace will lead us home.

The Lord has promised good to me…
His word my hope secures.
He will my shield and portion be…
as long as life endures.

When we’ve been here ten thousand years…
bright shining as the sun.
We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise…
then when we’ve first begun.

Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me….
I once was lost but now am found,
Was blind, but now, I see.
