The Boomerang

God’s Word: II Peter 2

God’s Message to Me: (My interpretation of what God is saying to me through these verses)

You have a saying, “what goes around comes around.”  My Word says “You reap what you sow.”  Those things in life are a given.  Plant weeds and reap weeds.  Plant roses and remove the weeds, enjoy an abundant crop of beautiful flowers with a sweet fragrance.  When you put forth good effort, you will reap a good crop.  When you propagate evil, it will boomerang on you.

Another saying, “you can’t stop the birds from flying over your head but you can keep them from making a nest in your hair.”  There are evil people in this world, bent on doing whatever they so desire to others, in order to benefit themselves.  Notice how these people congregate together—creating clusters of evil-doers—always seeking others to draw into their circle of evil workers—always practicing their evil boomerang of wicked deeds.

The boomerang of life is always active.  Every word you speak, every action you take, has a boomerang effect.  Sow kindness—reap kindness.  Sow hate—reap hate.  Sow love—reap love.  It is simply a given.  The one who sows a scant crop, reaps a scant crop.  The weeds of evil have found a way into the purest of motives.  They aren’t always evident at first—they seem so innocent but they will soon come to fruition and be known for what they are.  Be on your guard and snatch them out upon first realization of their presence.

God’s Question for Me: Will you take care to send out the boomerang of loving deeds and words?

God’s Promise to Me: I will be with you when you get caught up in the boomerang of evil that others send out.

My Prayer to God:

My Song to God: Yield not to Temptation    Horatio R Palmer  1868

Yield not to temptation, for yielding is sin;
Each vict’ry will help you some other to win;
Fight manfully onward, dark passions subdue;
Look ever to Jesus, He’ll carry you through.

Refrain:
Ask the Savior to help you,
Comfort, strengthen, and keep you;
He is willing to aid you,
He will carry you through.

Shun evil companions, bad language disdain,
God’s name hold in rev’rence, nor take it in vain;
Be thoughtful and earnest, kindhearted and true;
Look ever to Jesus, He’ll carry you through.

Refrain:
Ask the Savior to help you,
Comfort, strengthen, and keep you;
He is willing to aid you,
He will carry you through.

To him that o’ercometh, God giveth a crown,
Through faith we will conquer, though often cast down;
He who is our Savior, our strength will renew;
Look ever to Jesus, He’ll carry you through.

Refrain:
Ask the Savior to help you,
Comfort, strengthen, and keep you;
He is willing to aid you,
He will carry you through.
