Goals That Matter

God’s Word: I Peter 2

God’s Message to Me: (My interpretation of what God is saying to me through these verses)

What are your long-term goals for life?  Jesus came to earth with the goal of dying to purchase your forgiveness.  He literally lived His life so you could be forgiven.  How do your goals in life compare?  Are your goals self-focused or other focused?  Are they to make you look good or to bring joy and peace to others?  Follow Jesus example!  Live your life for others.

Where to begin? Clean house!  Make a clean sweep of malice and pretense, envy and hurtful talk.  Grasp the reality that I have chosen you to be my instrument to do My work in your world, your community, your family.  What is My work that I am calling you to do?  Be Jesus voice to your world.  Speak out on His behalf—telling others of the night-and-day difference He made for you—from nothing to something, from rejected to accepted.

How to go about this? Don’t settle down in this life and get yourself cozy because this world is not your home—you’re just passing through.  For this reason, live an exemplary life so that your actions will refute the prejudices others have toward Me.   Make me proud of you by being good citizens.  Respect those in authority over you—whether or not they have your best interests in mind.  You set the example by treating EVERYONE you meet with dignity, whether or not you agree with them, for I take your treatment of all others personally.

The bottom line:  Jesus suffered and died in silence, for your sake, content to let God set things right.  By His wounds you are healed.  Let your everyday life reflect this truth that life isn’t all about you but about helping heal the wounds of others.

God’s Question for Me:  If you were to reach all the goals on your list how many others were benefit and be blest?

God’s Promise to Me: I will settle all accounts for those who live their lives for others.

My Prayer to God:

Adoration:  What a self-less example Jesus set.  By His wounds we are healed—to live a free and joyous life on earth sharing His love with others—and looking forward to eternity in His presence.

Confession: I am sorry that I am so easily tempted to live life for self instead of others.  I want my goals to bless others not just be good for me.  I’m sorry that I struggle to think like You think and focus on blessing others.

Thanksgiving:  I can’t thank You enough for Your goodness to me.  Your provision and guidance help me keep on track for you.  I am happiest when my goals are Your goals and I am blessing others.

Supplication:  May my thoughts, words and deeds reflect Your love and sacrifice on my behalf.  May the world be a better place because I have lived.  I want my life to count for You—eternally.

My Song to God:  Living for Jesus by  Thomas O Chisholm  1917

Living for Jesus, a life that is true,
Striving to please Him in all that I do;
Yielding allegiance, glad-hearted and free,
This is the pathway of blessing for me.

Refrain:
O Jesus, Lord and Savior, I give myself to Thee,
For Thou, in Thy atonement, didst give Thyself for me;
I own no other Master, my heart shall be Thy throne;
My life I give, henceforth to live, O Christ, for Thee alone.

Living for Jesus Who died in my place,
Bearing on Calv’ry my sin and disgrace;
Such love constrains me to answer His call,
Follow His leading and give Him my all.

Refrain:

Living for Jesus, wherever I am,
Doing each duty in His holy Name;
Willing to suffer affliction and loss,
Deeming each trial a part of my cross.

Refrain:

Living for Jesus through earth’s little while,
My dearest treasure, the light of His smile;
Seeking the lost ones He died to redeem,
Bringing the weary to find rest in Him.

Refrain:
