A Living Sanctuary

God’s Word: Hebrews 8

God’s Message to Me: (My interpretation of what God is saying to me through these verses)

In the Old Testament I gave plans for building My Sanctuary—a place where the people could come to worship, with priests designated to minister before me on behalf of the people.  That is when I gave Moses the Ten Commandments to help guide the people into happy and productive lives.  But the people were stubborn and resisted following my rules which were only made for their benefit—not to hinder them.

There was an elaborate system of atoning for the sins of the people (forgiveness), by the offering of sacrifices of animals on the altar.   But the more the people increased the more the sins increased and the more the sacrificial offerings increased.  When the time was right I introduced a new plan that did away with the sacrifice of animals.  I Myself came to earth, in the form of Jesus Christ, to live and then die a sacrificial death as atonement for the sins of all mankind–forgiveness.  Now, instead of offering the sacrifice of animals for sin, one need only believe in and accept the forgiveness Jesus provided through His death.

Now, instead of going to the Old Testament Sanctuary to worship and offer sacrifices, I send my Holy Spirit into your heart and you become My living Sanctuary.  You can worship and draw near to me at any moment of the day or night.  24/7—I am with you!

God’s Question for Me: Have you accepted my forgiveness through the sacrificial death of Jesus on your behalf?

God’s Promise to Me: Draw near to Me and I will draw near to you.

My Prayer to God:

Adoration:  Your love for us amazes me.  We do not deserve your patient love and forgiveness yet You always stand by to assist us in all our struggles and temptations.  We are blest in You.

Confession:  My very salvation depends upon Your loving forgiveness yet when it comes to me forgiving others I seem to think they don’t deserve it.  Oh my.  How wrong I am.  Help me to be as forgiving of others as I want You to be forgiving of me.

Thanksgiving:  How thankful I am for your loving forgiveness.  I thank you for the way it stirs my heart to be forgiving of others—all others—not hold grudges or anger or hurt—but to release them in the same way I long for You to release me.   Thank you for helping me understand this simple method to ease the tension in my life by releasing it to You.

Supplication:  Please help me to draw near to you daily and look for opportunities to forgive instead of being so prone to take offense.  Prepare me to be a Sanctuary where You can dwell and be praised all the days of my life.

My Song to God: Lord prepare me to be a sanctuary

Lord, prepare me to be a sanctuary
Pure and holy, tried and true
With thanksgiving, I’ll be a living
Sanctuary for You

It is you, Lord
Who came to save
The heart and soul
Of every man
It is you Lord
Who knows my weakness
Who gives me strength,
With thine own hand.

Lord prepare me to be a sanctuary
Pure and Holy, tried and true
With thanksgiving I’ll be a living
Sanctuary for you

Lead Me on Lord
From temptation
Purify me
From within
Fill my heart with
You holy spirit
Take away all my sin

Lord prepare me to be a sanctuary
Pure and holy, tried and true
With thanksgiving, I’ll be a living
Sanctuary for You.
