Are You Listening?

5 Dec

God’s Word:  Hebrews 5

God’s Message to Me: (My interpretations of God’s comments to me from this chapter)

I created your ears so you could listen to the words of others.  A good rule of thumb to follow is—since you have two ears and one mouth, listen twice as much as you talk.  Everyone longs for someone who will listen to what they have to say, but seem to forget that is what the other person is longing for too. Listen to others, really listen, and look for ways you can encourage.

L—Learn all you can about the other person’s situation in life.

I—Identify with the speaker by your compassionate understanding.

S—Seek to know the heart of the speaker—their passions in life.

T—Touch hearts with the speaker by giving them your undivided attention.

E—Envision what it would be like to be in the speakers shoes.

N—Nourish the speakers confidence with your body language.

Yes, listen to others as you long for Me to listen to you.  Don’t come crying to me that no one will listen to you unless you are giving yourself in listening—really listening to others.  Remember, My responses to you are in direct response to your responses to others.  You know the Golden Rule—“Treat others as you wish to be treated.”  The deeper meaning to this is the WHY this is so important.  It’s not just because you hope they will eventually treat you better.  It is because AS YOU TREAT OTHERS, YOU ARE TREATING ME.  I take your treatment of others—all others—personally.

God’s Question for Me: Are you listening?

God’s Promise to Me:  My listening to your concerns is in direct response to how you listen to others concerns.

My Prayer to God:

Adoration:  I so appreciate that you teach us so gently and love us in spite of our failures.

Confession:  I am sorry that I spend more time making judgments than really listening.

Thanksgiving:  Thank you for Your Word through which You commune with mankind.  The animals you created with instinct to intuitively do Your bidding.  But for mankind You have given Your Word to actually commune and lead us along the path of life.  I am so thankful for Your guiding Word through which I can hear my Savior calling.

Supplication: Help me to follow the rule of thumb that I have two ears and one mouth, and thus I should devote twice as much time to listening as talking.

My Song to God: I can hear My Savior Calling

I can hear my Savior calling,

In the tend’rest accents calling;

On my ear these words are falling,

“Take thy cross, and daily follow me.”

I will take my cross and follow,

My dear Savior I will follow,

Where He leads me I will follow,

I’ll go with Him, with Him all the way.

Though the way be dark and dreary,

Though my feet be worn and weary,

Yet my heart keeps bright and cheery

As I follow, follow all the way.

Savior, ever go before me,

Shining heaven’s sunlight o’er me,

And when weak, by grace restore me

As I follow, follow all the way.

Through the valley safely lead me,

Heav’nly manna daily feed me;

Every hour, dear Lord, I need Thee

As I follow, follow all the way.

In Thy heart’s affection hold me,

In Thy arms of love enfold me,

And with Thine own grace uphold me,

As I follow, follow all the way.

I would never leave Thee, never;

Faithful I would be forever;

Nothing from Thy love can sever

As I follow, follow all the way.
