The Centerpiece

God’s Word: Hebrews 3

God’s Message to Me: (My interpretation of what God is saying to me through these verses)

Since tomorrow is Thanksgiving Day I see than many homes have created decorative centerpieces for their tables.  These seem to be made up of objects that highlight the occasion. The centerpiece is the center or important unifying object.  It usually corresponds and unites the rest of the objects on the table.  Together, this unity of objects brings pleasure to the eye and makes the meal more enjoyable.

What is the centerpiece of your life?  What is that unifying object of your devotion that brings you and those around your life pleasure and makes life more enjoyable?  You can always tell what that is for a person by looking at the way they spend their money and time.  Are they spending it on their own pleasure and fulfillment, or investing it in the well-being of others?

Jesus Christ came to earth to sacrifice his life in order to become the centerpiece of your life.  He came to be the centerpiece of everything you believe because He was faithful to carry out his mission of My behalf.  Jesus, as the centerpiece of your life, unifies everything you do and brings pleasure to all those around you and makes your life so much more enjoyable with a joy unspeakable and peace that passes understanding.

Whatever centerpiece you choose for your Thanksgiving table this year, may you see beyond the temporal beauty to Jesus, and make Him the centerpiece of your life.

God’s Question for Me: As you gather together on Thanksgiving Day what will be the centerpiece of your table and your heart?

God’s Promise to Me:  I will never leave you nor forsake you.

My Prayer to God:

Adoration: How blest we are to have Jesus as the centerpiece of our lives.  We want to always be sure we are showcasing the beauties of His love and forgiveness.

Confession:  So sorry that I get caught up in living day-to-day and hide the centerpiece away, forgetting the beauty that is mine and meant to be shared with others daily—Jesus my centerpiece.

Thanksgiving:  Thank you for this simple reminder to keep the main thing the main thing.  Thank you for health and strength to prepare a big meal for tomorrow and to have family and friends to gather with.

Supplication:  May we encourage others to keep on their toes in making the main thing the main thing in our lives.  May we devote our time and resources in serving others for the long haul—as you have done.

My Song to God:

We gather together to ask the Lord’s blessing;
He chastens and hastens His will to make known;
The wicked oppressing now cease from distressing;
Sing praises to His Name; He forgets not His own.

Beside us to guide us, our God with us joining,
Ordaining, maintaining His kingdom divine;
So from the beginning the fight we were winning;
Thou, Lord, were at our side, all glory be Thine!

We all do extol Thee, Thou Leader triumphant,
And pray that Thou still our Defender will be;
Let Thy congregation escape tribulation;
Thy Name be ever praised! O Lord, make us free!
