Build on Hope

God’s Word: I Timothy 6

God’s Message to Me: (My interpretation of what God is saying to me through these verses)

Whatever your lot in life—make the best of it.  Look for the good instead of bemoaning the bad.  When you look for the good you actually magnify it and the bad gradually fades out of sight.  Are you poor, sick, lonely, angry or discouraged?  Whatever your situation in life—you can still find plenty of good to be grateful for and focus on.  And whatever you focus on you build on.  You can’t build anything on discouragement and sadness.  You can only build on that which encourages and gives you hope.  Hope causes you to step up to the plate and give your best.

Too many build their whole life around accumulating wealth.  You entered this world penniless and you will leave it that way too.  Riches amount to nothing.  What really matters is the rich simplicity of being yourself—just as I created you.  You must find a balance of contentment in whatever situation you find yourself in.  This is a contentment of peace.

I created every human to pursue a righteous life—a life of wonder, faith, love, steadiness and courtesy.  You can do that whatever your lot in life.  And when you focus on these things, all else will fall into place.  Money is here today and gone tomorrow so focus your energies on doing well, be rich in helping others, and be extravagantly generous.  That is how you can build a treasury that will last; gaining life that is truly life—even eternal life.

God’s Question for Me: Will you build on My hope rather than bemoaning your present circumstances?

God’s Promise to Me: When you lay up treasure in heaven by giving and doing for others, you will not be disappointed in the dividends that I pay.

My Prayer to God:

Adoration:  Money could never buy the dividends you pay in peace, contentment and joy.

Confession:  Way too often I get my focus off your dividends and look at my shrinking pile of money and I’m tempted to worry.  You have never failed me and I know that whatever tomorrow holds—You will be present with me through it all.

Thanksgiving:  You have blessed me without reservation.  My cup is full and running over with peace and joy.  Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Supplication:  I want to be more open to others, to sharing both material and physical help.  I seek your wisdom in the use of my time and resources to be the most benefit to You and Your kingdom that I can possibly be with the skills and talents you have given me.

My Song to God: The Wise Man and the Foolish Man     Ann Omley, 1948

The wise man built his house upon the Rock,
The wise man built his house upon the Rock,
The wise man built his house upon the Rock,
And the rains came tumbling down.
The rains came down and the floods came up,
The rains came down and the floods came up,
The rains came down and the floods came up,
But the house on the Rock stood firm.

The foolish man built his house upon the sand,
The foolish man built his house upon the sand,
The foolish man built his house upon the sand,
And the rains came tumbling down.
The rains came down and the floods came up,
The rains came down and the floods came up,
The rains came down and the floods came up,
And the house on the sand fell flat.

So build your life on the Lord Jesus Christ,
So build your life on the Lord Jesus Christ,
So build your life on the Lord Jesus Christ,
And the blessings will come down.
The blessings come down as your prayers go up,
The blessings come down as your prayers go up,
The blessings come down as your prayers go up,
So build your life on the Lord.
