Recipe for Happiness

God’s Word: Philippians 4

God’s Message to Me: (My interpretation of what God is saying to me through these verses)

If you want your recipes to turn out great you have to use the necessary ingredients.  When you add worry to the mixture you can be sure happiness will not result.  Paul is an example of one who got the recipe right.  Paul, writing from prison, said “don’t fret or worry.  Instead of worrying, pray.  Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns.  Before you know it, a sense of God’s wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down.  It’s wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the center of your life.”

How was Paul able to get the recipe for happiness right while sitting in prison?  He threw out worry and replaced it with total trust in Christ—My Ambassador of love and forgiveness.  Paul had learned to fill his mind and meditate on things that were true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious—the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse.  Those are the key ingredients in the recipe for happiness.  Leave those out and happiness will elude you.

You too can experience the same results as Paul found.  The happiness that I give comes to you whether you have little or much, full or hungry, hands empty or hands full.  The secret ingredient that makes this recipe turn out perfect every time is that you are not alone—Christ is your partner and will be near you every step of the way.  Your strength comes from Him, through the words of the Bible–that is your recipe book for happiness.

God’s Question for Me: Are you willing to give up worry and trust in my recipe for happiness?

God’s Promise to Me: You can be sure that I will take care of everything you need—don’t fret.

My Prayer to God:

Adoration: How blessed we are to know that nothing can separate us from Your love or Your precious abiding presence.

Confession:  How sad that I still let worry creep into my mind—instead of simply trusting You.

Thanksgiving:  How comforting to know that whatever tomorrow holds—I know you are holding my hand through it all.

Supplication: Help me to be a living testimony of your recipe for happiness and share the recipe gladly with all.

My Song to God: Happiness is the Lord

Happiness is to know the Savior,
Living a life within His favor,
Having a change in my behavior,
Happiness is the Lord.

Happiness is a new creation,
Jesus and me in close relation,
Having a part in His salvation,
Happiness is the Lord.

Real joy is mine, no matter if teardrops start;
I’ve found the SECRET, it’s Jesus in my heart!

Happiness is to be forgiven,
Living a life that’s worth the living,
Taking a trip that leads to Heaven,
Happiness is the Lord,
Happiness is the Lord,
Happiness is the Lord!
