Easy-Street

God’s Word: Philippians 3

God’s Message to Me: (My interpretation of what God is saying to me through these verses)

Looking throughout the earth I find people everywhere coming up with schemes to live their lives on Easy-Street.  Everyone seems to be looking for the loop-hole to a financial bounty—as though that were the way to ultimate happiness.  I knew mankind would have this tendency so I had this warning written in My Word that “Beware–the love of money is the root of all evil.”  Easy-Street is really a dead-end street.  It beckons with many promises but ends in disaster.

No, Easy-Street can’t give you happiness because genuine happiness does not result from the external happenings in your life.  Happiness emits from the heart and results in a positive attitude toward your life and all those around you.  Happiness can’t be bought, borrowed, or stolen.  It is the overflow of the heart at peace because you have discovered the fount of everlasting life that Christ sacrificed His life to provide.

In this chapter Paul recounts all that he formerly had going for him but once he met Christ he willingly gave it all up to focus on knowing Christ and carrying out His mission for the good of all humanity.  Paul so completely “got it” that he literally gave his life serving Christ by serving and sharing Christ with others.  Paul didn’t jump ship with the going got tough—even to the point of singing praises while in prison.  This book of Philippians was written while he was in prison—yet we find no complaints or schemes to get out or get back onto Easy-Street.

God’s Question for Me:  What street are you striving to live your life on?

God’s Promise to Me: I cannot promise you skies always blue, flower-strewn pathways, all your lives through, joy without sorrow, peace without pain.  But I will promise strength for each day, rest for the labor, light for the way.  Grace for the trials, help from above, unfailing sympathy, undying love.

My Prayer to God:

Adoration: I rejoice in You and the peace and deep happiness you provide me and my family—as we place our trust in You.  We don’t ever want to be lured to any other street than heavens. We know that there is the ultimate happiness and peace that shall never end.

Confession:  The temptation is every present to seek out ways to move up to Easy-Street.  The battle is always waiting to break out should we cave to these temptations.  Too much of our lives have already been spent, waiting on this street-corner but the bus never shows up.  I’m sorry we have wished for more of this worlds goods—thinking they would satisfy.  They don’t.

Thanksgiving: Thank you God for providing just enough to sustain our lives.  Wealth is fleeting and time-consuming.  It blinds our eyes to real happiness and substitutes things to placate ourselves.  There is NO lasting happiness from money.  Happiness is found in You Lord!

Supplication:  We all face an unknown future and we wish to live out our lives as painlessly and peacefully as possible.  Help us to understand that the way to do this is to place our lives in your hands and rejoice no matter the circumstances of our lives.  May we be like Paul—sing praises even in the midst of the most painful of circumstances?

My Song to God:

God hath not promised skies always blue,
Flower-strewn pathways all our lives through;
God hath not promised sun without rain,
Joy without sorrow, peace without pain.

But God hath promised strength for the day,
Rest for the labor, light for the way,
Grace for the trials, help from above,
Unfailing sympathy, undying love.

God hath not promised we shall not know
Toil and temptation, trouble and woe;
He hath not told us we shall not bear
Many a burden, many a care.

God hath not promised smooth roads and wide,
Swift, easy travel, needing no guide;
Never a mountain, rocky and steep,
Never a river, turbid and deep.
