Each Word a Gift

God’s Word: Ephesians 4

God’s Message to Me: (My interpretation of what God is saying to me through these verses.  But let me encourage you to let God speak directly to you by you reading his Word.  What He will say to you may be completely different from what He is saying to me.  He knows each of us intimately and speaks to us each—right where we are today. The Word is living and active—God’s territory where His Spirit interacts with our spirits.)

The greatest gift you can give Me, or another person, comes from your words.  And, in the same manner, the cruelest curse you can give Me or another person, also comes from your words.  As Jesus says in Matthew 16 “But what comes out of the mouth gets its start in the heart.”  Your words are either “gifts” or “curses.”  It all depends upon the source of your words—the heart.

You would do well to examine your heart regularly.  The heart, as the center of your being, receives it’s nourishment through the thoughts you invite into your brain.  Philippians 4:8 puts it this way “Summing it all up, friends, I’d say you’ll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious—the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse.”  Garbage in—garbage out.

Children, who grow up hearing foul language in their home, school and on TV, will come to speak the same way.  Whatever you want your children to do—you do it first.  Whether you want them to emulate you or not, they certainly will.  That is how they learn—by example.

I visited earth, as Christ, and gave you an example to emulate so that you would protect your heart by not allowing evil thoughts a home in your heart. Your choice of words that you speak to others, whether a gift or a curse, I accept personally.   You cannot hate another without me feeling your hatred.  You cannot love another without me feeling your love.  It’s that simple!

God’s Question for Me: What are you inviting into your heart, via your mind?  The best or the worst?  The beautiful or the ugly?

God’s Promise to Me: Whatever you say or do, to another person, is done unto Me.

My Prayer to God:

Adoration:  I love it that I can actually express love to You God by expressing it to others—all others.  Loving You is not something I do apart from loving others.  How simple that is.  I am grateful.  This is the “flush” people get when doing “random acts of kindness.”

Confession: How can something so simple be so ignored in my life and the lives of all others?  So sad that we, your people, have done such a poor job of living this out before others.  It is so easy to set this thought aside and say cruel words to another.  I’m so sorry God. I want to honor you by honoring others.

Thanksgiving:  Thank You for this simple reminder as to how to keep my words and deeds pure, by keeping my mind pure and expressing love to others and thus You.    Such a simple yet profound thought.

Supplication:  Today—let my words and deeds be an expression of Your love that I long to emulate.  May my words all be gifts that lighten the load of others—and bless You too.

My Song to God: How About Your Heart?
Chorus:
How about your heart, is it right with God?
That’s the thing that counts today
Is it black by sin, is it pure within?
Could you ask Christ in to stay?

People often see you as you are outside
Jesus really knows you for He sees inside

How about your heart, is it right with God?
That’s the thing that counts today

People often see you as you are outside
Jesus really knows you for He sees inside

How about your heart, is it right with God?
That’s the thing that counts today
