“Who–Me?”

God’s Word: John 10

God’s message to me:

I have an assignment for you!  Yes—you who have had the eyes of your heart opened to Jesus.  You are my ambassador to your little corner of the world.  As a shepherd cares for his sheep, often denying self for their good, my assignment for you is to care for others.  Jesus had an assignment for His visit to earth and set the example for you.  He called Himself the Good Shepherd.  Wherever He went He was watching out for the good of others.  He healed the sick, fed the hungry and comforted the grieving.  He fulfilled His assignment completely.

What about you?  How are you doing with your assignment from Me?  Who in your corner of the world is sick, hungry or grieving?  Are you the first person who shows up on their doorstep?  That little tug you feel in your heart, the tug that says “I really should do something” is my voice calling you to carry out your assignment—on My behalf.

I do My work in your world through ordinary people—just like you.  I pour my blessings into your life with the understanding that you will pour blessings into the lives of others.  I comfort you so that you will become a comforter of others—not just for your own personal comfort.  Therefore, your assignment for today (and every day) is to “shepherd” my sheep—reach out to others with love and compassion, helping the eyes of their hearts to be opened to the one who came to save the world—Jesus Christ.

God’s Question for me:  Can I count on you to fulfill My assignment for your life?

God’s Promise to me:

Psalms 23: 1-3 God, my shepherd! I don’t need a thing.
You have bedded me down in lush meadows,
you find me quiet pools to drink from.
True to your word,
you let me catch my breath
and send me in the right direction.

4 Even when the way goes through
Death Valley,
I’m not afraid
when you walk at my side.
Your trusty shepherd’s crook
makes me feel secure.

5 You serve me a six-course dinner
right in front of my enemies.
You revive my drooping head;
my cup brims with blessing.

6 Your beauty and love chase after me
every day of my life.
I’m back home in the house of God
for the rest of my life.

My prayer to God:

I am honored to be loved by you and accept your assignment for my life.

I am sorry that I too often accept your care and comfort without passing it on.

Thank you for being my Shepherd who guides, loves and protects me.

Help me to carry out your assignment for me diligently.  It is an honor to do so!

My Song to God:

Savior, like a shepherd lead us
Much we need Thy tender care
In Thy pleasant pastures feed us
For our use Thy folds prepare
Blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus
Thou hast bought us, Thine we are
Blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus
Thou hast bought us, Thine we are
We are Thine, who Thou befriend us
Be the guardian of our way
Keep Thy flock from sin defend us
Seek us when we go astray
Blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus
Hear Thy children when we pray
Blessed Jesus, oh blessed Jesus
Hear Thy children when we pray

Early let us seek Thy favor
Early let us do Thy will
Blessed Lord and only Savior
With Thy love our bosoms fill
Blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus
Thou hast loved us, love us still
Blessed Jesus, oh blessed Jesus
Thou hast loved us, love us still
Blessed Jesus, oh blessed Jesus
Thou hast loved us, love us still
