What’s Your Mission?

God’s Word: John 1

God’s message to me:

The author of this book is the Apostle John, though the John he introduces in verse six is not himself, but John the Baptist.  The author and John B had identical missions in life and they carried it out faithfully—throughout their entire lives.  In John 20:32 John clearly states his purpose for  writing this book “But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name.” In chapter 1:6-8 we learn John B’s mission that was given him from God.  “John (B) sent by God to point out the way to Jesus.  He came to show everyone where to look, who to believe in.”

Should we conclude that God hand-picks a few people to carry out his mission?  (Whew!  Glad I don’t have to walk in John B’s shoes—especially since he was beheaded  for his faith.)  Or is it that God is calling all believers on this mission—but only a few really grasp it and actively pursue it?  What do you think?

In chapter 3:30 John B said his purpose was to point people to Jesus and him slip off to the sidelines.  Chapter one shares how John B gathered followers and then sent them to follow Jesus.  This is a good method of all believers.  So live our lives that others are drawn to us because of our high standards which come directly from following Jesus.  Then use every opportunity to show everyone where to look and who to believe in—Jesus—the very essence of God.

God’s Question for me:  What would your friends say is your mission in life?

God’s Promise to me: I know the plans I have for you—plans to give you a hope and a future.

My prayer to God:

I stand in awe of Your wonderful plan of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ as redeemer.

I am sorry that I let the cares and concerns of my life crowd out my following Your mission.

Thank you for the opportunities that lie before me to be your witness.

Please help me to focus on Your mission and live my life as an example, pointing others to You.

My Song to God:

God forgave my sin in Jesus’ name.
I’ve been born again in Jesus’ name
And in Jesus’ name I come to you
To share his love as he told me to.

He said ‘Freely, freely you have received;, freely, freely give.
Go in my name, and because you believe others will know that I live.

All pow’r is giv’n in Jesus’ name
in earth and heav’n in Jesus name
And in Jesus’ name I come to you
To share his pow’r as he told me to.

He said ‘Freely, freely you have received; freely, freely give.
Go in my name, and because you believe others will know that I live.

God gives us life in Jesus’ name
He lives in us in Jesus’ name
And in Jesus’ name I come to you
To share his peace as he told me to.
