The Crossroads of Life

God’s Word:  Genesis 38

God’s message to me:

The rules of any given society often become very complicated and very far from my ideal for mankind.  You can be sure that these rules become intertwined with selfishness and lust.  In this story of Judah and Tamar you see this played out.  Judah had lost two sons who were married to this woman Tamar and was afraid to risk giving her a third of his sons, his last son—so he didn’t—though he had promised her he would.  Tamar felt she was in a crossroads of life and she make a choice.   She dressed as a prostitute and tricked Judah into becoming the father of her child which turned out to be twins.  She was desperate to have a child and this seemed to her a logical thing to do.

The society at that time brought about this circumstance.  She was not free to go out and marry outside the family, even though her husband’s were now dead.  And this father-in-law had promised her another husband.  As Tamar and Judah came to this crossroads of their lives and ended up sinning, so it has gone down through the ages.

Be careful that your rationalization does not turn you away from My Word and will.  Instead, when you are at a crossroads of life, and those moments come daily, turn to Me for guidance and wisdom to make the right choice.  No matter how inviting the choices may seem, don’t allow yourself to step outside My will in order to attain that which you desire.  The acquiring of things does not bring satisfaction and true happiness.  True happiness comes in being content with what you have.  How seldom do I hear prayers for contentment.  How often do I hear prayers for more of what the eyes desire?

God’s Question for me:

Will you turn away from selfishness and choose to be satisfied with what you have?

God’s Promise to me:

My gift of contentment comes to those who seek it rather than seeking more “things.”

My prayer to God:

I praise You for Your gift of “contentment” that brings peace in the midst of turmoil.

I am sorry that I so often seek for more “things” instead of contentment in You.

Thank You for always providing and giving us peace whatever the circumstances.

Please help us to choose contentment in the midst of life’s challenges and pains.

My Song to God: Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus

O soul, are you weary and troubled?
No light in the darkness you see?
There’s light for a look at the Savior,
And life more abundant and free!

Refrain:
Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of His glory and grace.

Through death into life everlasting
He passed, and we follow Him there;
O’er us sin no more hath dominion—
For more than conqu’rors we are!

Refrain:

His Word shall not fail you—He promised;
Believe Him, and all will be well:
Then go to a world that is dying,
His perfect salvation to tell!

Refrain:
