Under God’s Umbrella

God’s Word:  Genesis 25

God’s message to me:

When you have doubts and questions about what is happening in your life—come to Me and I will give you rest and comfort.  It isn’t so much that you need answers for the future, as rest and comfort for the present.  The future is made up of the happenings of the present.  If you will accept my help for the present, you can handle whatever the future holds.

As Abraham and his immediate descendants were not perfect, I don’t expect you to live perfectly.  That’s why Christ died—to make up for your imperfections.  But that doesn’t mean that you can purposely continue to make bad choices.  You have a will and in order to live under my umbrella of protection you must remain close to me and live within my boundaries.  My boundaries can extend to wherever you go and whatever you do—it all depends upon your motivation for doing and saying what you do and say.  Is your purpose to glorify me or simply to bring yourself immediate pleasure or glory?

As Abraham gave up the security of home, serving me will require you to give up some pleasures.  There is no deeper pleasure in this life—or the life to come for that matter—than a life submitted to my will and eager to carry out my purposes.  That will bring you deep and lasting pleasure—regardless of the ease or difficulty of your life.

God’s Question for me:

Will you choose to live under my umbrella of protection and glorify me?

God’s Promise to me:

Draw near to me and I will open your eyes to my constantly abiding presence.

My prayer to God:

I praise you for accepting me, just as I am, and using me in spite of my imperfections.

I am sorry that I struggle so with restraining my stubborn will.  I want to submit to you.

Thank you for not giving up on me when I am tempted to give up on myself.

Help me today to more aggressively live to give others pleasure and give up my own.

My Song to God:

Are you tired of chasing pretty rainbows?
Are you tired of spinning round and round?
Wrap up all those shattered dreams of your life
And at the feet of Jesus, lay them down.

Give them all, give them all, give them all to Jesus
Shattered dreams, wounded hearts, and broken toys.
Give them all, give them all, give them all to Jesus
And He will turn your sorrows into joy.

He never said you only see sunshine,
He never said there would be no rain.
He only promised a heart full of singing
About the very thing that once brought pain.

Give them all, give them all, give them all to Jesus
Shattered dreams, wounded hearts, and broken toys.
Give them all, give them all, give them all to Jesus
And He will turn your sorrows into joy.
