My Home is in Heaven

God’s Word:  Genesis 23

God’s message to me:

Your home is in heaven.  You are a foreigner and a visitor to the earth.  Too many people live as though this world were their home.  They settle down, accumulate much of these worlds’ goods and seek only their own comfort.  They completely ignore my call on their lives to live for the good of others.

Abraham is my example for you to follow.  Be willing to give it all up and follow me.  Sarah died in a foreign land, away from home and family.  Their story is my reminder to you that when I call you into my service it does not mean I am calling you into a vacation land, a land of luxury.  If your basic needs are met, be content with that, and do it willingly.  Don’t bemoan my provision as though I had forgotten you or made a mistake.  You are unable to see the bigger picture that I see.

You are playing a part in a huge canvas of life that I am weaving.  Your part is very important.  If you will simply submit to me, I can use your life to create an interesting and beautiful design that will draw others to me.  But if you refuse me, the design will take on a design that does not create beauty.  This tapestry will grace the walls of heaven.  The words and deeds of your life today are part of that tapestry.  Living your lives for others makes the tapestry rich and full.  Living life for self makes it thin and weak.  Willingly give up seeking for more of this world’s goods and a position for yourself; instead seek to be of service to me by serving others.

God’s Question for me:

What on earth are you doing for heaven’s sake?

God’s Promise to me:

Laying up treasures in heaven can only come by giving up self and possessions on earth. As you give up your attachment to the things of this world I will add to your treasure awaiting you in heaven.

My prayer to God:

I praise you for the way you speak to my heart through your Word.

I am sorry that I so often read it and walk back into my life and forget about what I read.

Thank you for this reminder that this world is not my home.

Help me today to reach out to others, to give up my comfort to bless others.

My Song to God:

1. Jesus calls us o’er the tumult
of our life’s wild restless sea;
day by day his voice still calls us
saying, ‘Christian, follow me.’

2. Jesus calls us from the worship
of the vain world’s golden store,
from each idol that would keep us,
saying, ‘Christian, love me more.’

3. In our joys and in our sorrows,
days of toil and hours of ease,
Jesus calls, in cares and pleasures,
‘Christian, love me more than these.’

4. Jesus calls us: by your mercies,
Saviour, may we hear your call,
give our hearts in glad obedience,
serve and love you best of all.
